Gosh Irishmolly, I can totally relate to your story, sadly I have PCOS 13 years and unfortunately I had to learn all about it the hard way. You have done the right thing by joining here, when I was diagnosed I was totally in the dark and there was no support groups/forums around then and a lot of the time I had to rely on what my gynae told me but when I joined a group, I learned so much and you will find that here too.
Don't stress yourself out about it, a lot of women have it and they can manage it. I was put on metformin (depends on the gynae you go to as some are for and some are against) but it didn't suit me but then I was told about the metformin SR and that worked well, I'm not on them now but I know if I do need to go back on them then they work well for me.
The weight is important, not sure what diet your on but I'm in slimming world and I have cut out bread more or less completely and it seems to be working. Do you mind me asking are you Irish (seems an obvious question) but I'm Irish too and depending on what route you want to take I'm sure there is someone here who will be able to help you.
Glad you came on as I went through this myself and it is not something you want to do on your own
