I purposely didn't accept any social invitations for my first 5 weeks with SW as I know my own willpower level (zero!) and I knew I'd get tempted by the wrong foods and alcohol. I wanted to get myself off to a good start. It was no big deal, I caught up with a load of programmes on Catch Up and most of the time the weather was rotten and who wants to go out on a cold, wet, windy February night anyway?
So I did go out with some friends this Saturday. I was driving so no alcohol (I find it easier to abstain altogether - if I have one I want another) and also I'd had smoked salmon and ham during the day and they made me really, really thirsty so I stuck to water, which was fine for me. However, it wasn't fine for everyone else..... "Are you alright?" - "Go on, just have one drink" - "are you feeling OK?" - "come on, enjoy yourself, let me get you something different" - "are you sure you're OK?" - for heaven's sake, I'm a grown woman, I can make my own choices and I don't need to feel badgered all evening because of what I choose to drink! And let me clarify this was not a bunch of bright young things out on the town - it was middle aged people enjoying a couple of hours in a Comedy Club. I never drink when I'm driving so I would have stuck to soft drinks in any case, and I happen to have wanted water. Now it seems the "Water Police" are out on a Saturday evening - had I NOT have been driving I probably would have been worn down in the end and landed up drinking the equivalent of a bottle of wine, (or even more!) and then spent the whole of Sunday beating myself up for messing with a very good SW week.
Next time I'm wearing a sign around my neck..... "NO THANKS, I'M DRIVING. I DON'T WANT TO SABOTAGE MY WEIGHT LOSS. I LIKE WATER, PLEASE DON'T GET YOURSELF WORKED UP ABOUT IT".
