Hi all.
About me: Spent my youth being slim and never really thinking about what I ate, then I went to Uni and take-away and boozey lifestyle left me a good few stone heavier than when I started. My weight has yo-yo since then, trying a variety of different diets, weight loss pills (prescribed) and everything in between!
Had a baby 7 months ago, and actually lost weight as I was eating really healthily but as I couldn't breast-feed I wasn't able to lose a great deal of weight and gradually more and more pounds have crept on.
Started the Cambridge diet 29th May and must admit, was more than a little surprised when meeting my counsellor, to find she's a lot larger than me!
Am currently on Day 5.
Had kept to it 100% over the last few days, but after my tummy growled hungrily at me all evening, despite glasses of water - I caved and chopped up two celery sticks into small pieces and nibbled. Felt a little sick afterwards, but the growls went away. My counsellor advises she did this most nights initially as she couldn't cope without food.
I'm on the cusp of the 3 or 4 packs being 5'7.5 - so have been having 3 CD products a day, but have bought a few spares for days where I am more active. So far I only have the ready made tetra-briks (chocolate velvet is especially delicious!). First time I ever tried Cambridge, I caved after 2 days as I didn't like hardly any of the flavours and trying a maple and pecan porridge and feeling sick was the straw that broke the camel's back! Absolutely love the ready-made shakes though, and look forward to drinking them each day.
Lessons learned so far:
A lot of my eating is linked to emotions, whether I want to consciously believe that or not. I was watching my OH eating his dinner earlier (in fairness, I asked him to come eat in the living room as he's been hiding and eating in another room since I started). I felt really upset and hungry watching him eat, which was when the tummy growls started.
I feel like this diet is definitely making me think about food and what I'm putting in my body. More often than not I eat just for the sake of it/because it's there and not because I'm hungry. I also eat far far too much - huge portion sizes will be the first thing to go after this.
Being a vegetarian, I've realised my diet was largely carb based and making it difficult for me to ever shift weight. Removing food is making me rethink of recipes I can start to make with vegetables when I'm maintaining.
Good points:
Have been sneakily weighing myself (pretty much daily!) and have lost about half a stone so far. This has encouraged me a lot.
Drinking a lot of water has made my skin clear up a treat. OH commented that my skin was glowing
Bad points:
Sometimes feeling fuzzy headed
Kidneys aching every now and again
Obsessing about food too much
