70 Pounds to lose and I started yesterday!

I am currently pushing 302.5lb and it will be a bug mountain to climb but I will do it.

Anyone else shed this amount of weight without any medical assistance? How did you do it?

    Thanks in advance

There's lots of us losing even more than that without medical help love IIRC my wanted loss is about 200lb! You're definitely in the right place!

Welcome! Have a nose around in the other threads and diaries, you're more than welcome and might get inspired.

It'll be hard but it's more than worth it!

Personally I'm counting calories - how are you proposing on doing it? I note you want to calorie count - have you calculated the correct amount for yourself through your BMR etc?

Hi Apico04... Welcome to the forum!
You certainly have come to the right place for lots of encouragement and advice and well done you for getting going on your journey to slimdom!

I've been jogging along (not literally) for some time to get my weight down without any medical help and in fact all my meds that I have to take are somewhat responsible for my slow journey but never-the-less it's well worth keeping going to be able to feel very much better without all the fat slowing me down...even though I have a way to go as yet.

Don't forget to get your own diary going... then we know where you are..
All the very best to you.

    Onwards and Downwards!

    Welcome Apico

I'm calorie counting - after trying many other ways to lose weight, it's the most sustainable way for me long term. As others here have advised me, don't set your calories too low - as you lose weight over time you will want to reduce your daily cals and if you start too low you'll be left with no cals to reduce to (I think that's how it works lol). The best advice I got was to log everything in My Fitness Pal - it's fab for showing daily cals - and I mean everything, even those sneaky vinos

I'm bigger than you, so you've got a head start on me already We can do this together - with the help of this forum, everyone here is lovely and supportive.

Hello! I was almost exactly your weight when I started, and am now around 157lbs. I did have a small amount of medical help in that I took Orlistat for a year or so, but the vast majority of my loss is down to good old-fashioned calorie counting. So yes, it can most definitely be done, go for it!! Good luck. xx

Calorie counting all the way, it's just so flexible. MFP is free and easy to use but sometimes they set the daily allowances too low I find. Start with working out your calories for your BMR and eat that amount for a while and see how it goes. Adjust as you go along.

I spent an hour so yesterday checking the site out and I feel like many more hours will be spent soaking in all the information possible. So many wonderful achievements and journeys. I am calorie counting and am currently working with 2000 Calories per day.

I do plan on getting a diary going, before I found this site I started a blog of my own to share my journey and keep me active. I find that typing my daily blog and reminding myself and reflecting on day my helps keep me motivated.

Congratulation on staying true to your journey and never settling, hearing that from you and the many others on this board is nice since I am sure to hit my fair share of walls.

    Thank you!

My Fitness Pal is my best friend! I put in everything that I intake and all my workouts, I love seeing it all calculated right in front of me an it helps me understand the comparison. It broke my heart when I saw how many calories my favorite foods had but it was very useful information. From everything I have seen on this site I would have to agree with you, everyone here is lovely and supportive.

I look forward to doing this together with everyone and anyone going through the same journey! Thank you and positive thoughts towards you and your journey.

Wow....I will definitely be picking your brains on how you did it, especially on how you over came all your walls. I am very impressed and congrats to you on your amazing results.

I agree, it so flexable and if done well it still lets you sample you favorites while understanding your limits. I have tried the crash/low calorie diets in the past and they dont work so I like that my MFP set me up at 2000 Calories per day, I sometimes struggle to get to that. Adjustment and understanding is what I am working on, I feel like I will learn a lot on this site that will help me with that.

Thank you all for your kind and insightful words, I do feel like I made a real positive decision in joining this wonderful community!

Sounds like you've made a brilliant start with the calories working out - it's always best to start on more so you can dwindle your way down safely
