Licking the Lid of Life....my esoteric diary

You might find you are pleasantly surprised at weigh-in. I weigh in the evenings, but before I have my evening meal. I wear my lightest possible clothes (leggings and a thin top), and always visit the loo before I hop on the scales. I'm generally about 2 pounds heavier than I am in the...

    Wednesday Weighers

I know some cough medicine technically has syns but I have never counted them when I've had to take them. For cough sweets, I don't count the more "medicine" type ones (eg Strepsils), partly because you have to limit intake (I think Strepsils are once every 3 or four hours). More "sweet" type...

Slimming world diet - breakfast ideas

Quark is free, and although it tastes of nothing much at all by itself, it's easy to jazz up. I often mix it with marmite, but I know not everyone is a marmite lover! Or sometimes I add chilli flakes and capers, and mix that in really well with black pepper, and spread it on slices of apple...

Green Days Losing weight on Green Days

I have only ever done green as I'm vegetarian. I really like the extra Hex's you get on Green! As well as Quorn mince (and a lot of the other Quorn products), soy mince and tofu are free food. If you're not used to cooking with tofu it can be a bit daunting at first, but it's well worth...

    Wednesday Weighers

I had an evening off-plan yesterday (though I had planned to be off-plan, if that makes sense!). We had friends round and everyone bought a dish, on a Mexican theme. I enjoyed every minute of it - cake and tequila were involved! Straight back on today though - soup and scan bran for lunch...

    What do you snack on?

I eat a lot of fruit, but I also tend to use my Hex A's and B's for snacks (I do Green days as I'm vegetarian, so I can have two of each). For example, I'll have mini-babybel lites mid-morning, or Ryvita and marmite/Quark when I get in from work.

    Pigging out after weigh in

Like others have said, I do "treat" myself after weigh-in, but I account for it in the week's syns. That way it feels like I'm indulging myself but I am still sticking to the plan. I don't really have a sweet tooth but I love really cheesy pasta dishes, so I might use my Hex A and syn an extra...

Raffles in Group: consultants opinions greatly appreciated.

I have been to several different groups and although they all had raffles, we were never made to feel any pressure to buy a ticket. Most people did, because it went towards the tea and coffee, and the next week's raffle. The raffle prizes at my current group are usually super free food: the...

I suppose I kind of assumed that the extra calories from the meat/fish one could eat on EE would be more or less equivalent to the calories from the extra HE's on green. I know what you mean about consultants: even mine, who is all round fantastic, is a bit hazy on red/green plans.

Another vote for batch cooking: soups, stews, curries, chillies and bolognese all freeze well. I also make a huge vat of spicy tomato sauce every month or so and then freeze it in portion sizes. You can then add whatever you have on hand to make a meal: beans, quorn mince or pieces, peas and...

    Body Magic/Flexible Syns?

For me, flexible syns means I avoid the "oh god I've blown it so might as well carry on blowing it" feeling. I might STS or even gain, but I have remained in control of my eating. I know this sounds like so much psychobabble but it has made a huge difference to the way I feel and act around...

    Extra Easy Need help!

When I hit a plateau once my consultant suggested changing things up for a couple of weeks. I tend to eat the same things a lot, so I spent a week where I had different HEB's everyday, and a week where I had a different breakfast every day. I don't know why it worked, but it did!

Extra Easy Days: SW meal wrong turn out?

Ha! I make several variations on the "quiche", but I call them "sausage slice", "pasta slice" etc! They are yummy, but they're not quiche! I have always found the SW recipes very hit and miss, and prefer to "SW-ise" other recipes. My own personal favourite failure was the "ice cream" made...

If you could redesign SW, what would you do!

I'm not fussed about pre-packed foods: I think one of the reasons SW works so well is the emphasis on cooking from scratch. The website definitely needs an overhaul, and though I think it's a good thing that all meetings follow the same format, I think the format itself needs looking at. An...

I love the "Manky Brown Nana Award"!! And I agree, the plan itself is fantastic, but the group format is very tired. Like a previous poster said, it is very contradictory to say that 1-2 pounds a week is a healthy loss, then applaud fanatically when someone has huge losses.

Has anyone given up sugar? (or at least drastically cut down?)

This is me too! I find I cope fine if I just don't have chocolate/biscuits/cake in the house at all, but I am incapable of stopping at just one. I stopped buying Hi-Fi bars or Alpen Lights because I would just keep getting up and fetching another one till I'd finished off the packet.

After a few days of unsuccessfully following SW I have some Qs.

  230. jogirl

    Piggy Regret :(

Yes, just draw a line and start over. One bad night will not ruin the past three weeks. And don't try and "make up" for it by starving yourself today, because that will backfire on you (I have been guilty of this in the past)! Stick to the plan from today and you will be fine!
