I read the book ages ago and thought it souded interesting then saw the horizon program but was still uncertain as I am a keen (but slow) runner and will be training for a marathon soon (but hopefully maintaining before training is crazy )

I run 4 to 5 days a week mostly 3 to 6 miles but once a week approx 10 miles plus on military fitness class a week.

My neice just started Judddd and inspired me to try but a little uncertain still about the level of exercise and the down days. I did run on my first DD in the morning and i was fine. But any excercisers out there with any tips for me?

Hoping to do a military fitness class tomorrow on a DD tomorrow

Thanks in advance

Hi there

I'm a runner - not quite marathon distance though! My longest distance is 15 miles and I'm slow too - between 11-12 min miling, but the with every pound I lose, I feel like I'm getting faster. At my lightest 4 years ago, I was comfortably 9 min miling.

Anyway, are exercise and Intermittent Fasting compatible? Definitely. I find that if I exercise on a DD, I usually have plenty of fuel from the previous UD to see me through. However, I wouldn't do a really long or hard run on a DD, simply because I don't eat back any calories and after that kind of run you really need to be giving your body some protein and carbohydrate quite quickly afterwards. I have also found it a struggle sometimes running early on an UD which follows a DD - I don't think I have enough 'in the bank' as it were, so usually leave an UD run until later in the day.

My hubby is a very quick runner (6 min miling type pace) and has been doing 5:2 for the health benefits and to lose a few pounds. He is a healthy weight already but these runner types like to be as light as possible to be as quick as possible! Throughout all of this he has maintained his usual mileage each week. He is running a marathon on Saturday and is not fasting at all this week as he needs to carbo load - so maybe a couple of weeks before your marathon you need to hold off any fasting.

Hope that helps!

Thank you really helpful :) Good luck to your hubby. My planned marathon is not until next april so hopefully will be at goal way before then and can revert to 5/2 like your hubby waty before then.

My longest rn recently has been 9 miles but really want to get to 10 this week so will see how it goes feel very encouraged by your reply.

Good luck to you too

Teresa

Ive not had problems so far training. Usually have protein after training if I'm going to have an intense session I might have some quick carbs before.

So far much more energy than vlcd for training

Good luck with the training :)
