Okay so! From July 2012 to March 2013 I lost 4.5 stone, so in March this year I was 8st 12. I did it all on my own, but it wasn't a particularly healthy diet, i was on 600/700 calories a day and burning about 3000 a week at the gym. I absolutely drained myself, anyway needless to say when i started to eat normally again the weight did pile on! I am now 10st 8, which for my height isn't too awful!

BUT I am mega unhappy and would like to lost about 22 pounds to get me back down to 9...as there is a dress I WILL fit in again! I wanted to do it the healthy way this time so I've been doing slimming world for a couple of weeks - but I don't seem to be making much progress?

Can someone give me some tips regarding portion sizes and snacks - and fluids!!

I am still going to the gym 4/5 times a week :)

I've only lost a couple of pounds so far...

On a standard day I am eating:

Breakfast: Porridge oats (HexB) 175ml 1% fat milk (HexA)
Morning snack: Satsuma, plum
Lunch: Homemade vegetable soup (lentils, potato, parsnip, onion, courgette) and fat free aldi forest fruits yoghurt
Afternoon Snack: Banana, apple
Dinner: Chicken breast, brown rice, roast vegetables
Pud: Fat free aldi vanilla yoghurt (1.5 syns), pineapple, strawberries

Fluids: Green Tea x2
Black Coffee x1
Water x1
Diet energy drink x1
Hot chocolate (2 syns)

Hi Abby, I've just been reading through your posts so I thought I'd pop in and say 'hi' :) I can't really give you much advice as I'm starting a fresh today after a bad couple of weeks. So I'm just muddling through myself. Your food looks really good to me though, it maybe just a case of perseverance. I guess it takes a bit longer for some of us x x

Thanks Calisi, just a tad scared because I'm not eating enough syns!!! Good luck to you though :) xx

Hi Abi, just read your post, well done on the weight loss but I know how hard it is to maintain. I have probably lost about 30 stone on all my weight loss journeys lol. I am currently doing slimming world and find it great. Looking at your food diary the only thing I would ask is it porridge oats you are using and not the like of ready brek? Do you roast the veg yourself using frylight or what do you use or do you buy frozen roasted veg? Another thing about sw is that the food optimising is 80% of the plan and the exercise is only 20% only contributing to about 2lbs weight loss a month. However they do still recommend exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle and to tone. I ave also found weeks were I go mad at exercise and use hardly any syns that I don't lose much, then weeks were I maybe only do 3 or 4 brisk walks and have about 10 syns a day that I lose more. Also try your best to drink at least 2 litres of water a day as I do find this halos with weight loss. Finally lol always always measure or weigh your healthy extras. Good luck xx

Thank you :)

How many syns are you having a day ? I aim for about 10 a day. I usually use them on hot chocolates, chocolate yogurt desserts or sometimes sauces x x x

Thanks so much for your reply :)

I use the aldi instant porridge oat sachets - which are classed as a HEXB :) I roast my vegetables sometimes in fry light in the oven, other times i use frozen mixed veg and boil that...or sometimes I have salad! 2 lbs a month?! I was aiming for that a week really! Yeah I need to try and use my syns to be honest, because exercise is a big part of my life. I sit at a desk all day though!! 5 days a week!

The water thing is something i must do!

Thank you :)

I am only actually having about 5 at the moment, depends sometimes! I need to up that. I use it on flavoured yoghurts, hot chocolate, cereal bars and sauces!

Hi again, not sure if you have the sw books or not. I just checked mine and the aldi porridge oat sachets are not mentioned as a hex, I know you can use shops own brand but it would have to be just porridge oats as the sachets seem to be higher in syns and is possibly why they are not mentioned as a hex. We were also told this week to be careful with frozen veg, like roasted veg or flavoured veg or even some of the frozen rice as they have syns because of the coating on them. The 2 lbs a month is only what exercise contributes to your weight loss this is on top of whatever you lose from the food optimising ie the sw plan. I hope to have 21lbs off for Xmas, 13 more weigh ins but will be happy enough with a stone. I try to have about 10 syns a day, I like mini twisters 3.5, ringos 3.5, I also use them for mayo and chilli sauce and sometimes for extra cheese lol. I tend to have fruit and fat free yog at breakfast and keep my hex a and b for supper when I have a cheese toastie and look forward to it lol. Be careful with fat free yogurts too as not all brands are syn free xx

I don't have the books but I've checked with other peoples posts online who are using the books and they say they can be used. They are the weight suggested and they aren't flavoured so i don't see why not?

i know not all brands of yog are syn free, i already count my syns on some yogs i use. I need something substantial for my breakfast else im hungry by 10am.

as for veg, i never ever buy frozen flavoured veg or frozen rice. I roast all my own veg and only by frozen mixed cauliflower/carrots etc.

Yeah i just want my 20 pounds off by xmas :)

xx

No probs well just stick with what you are doin but maybe ease of the exercise a little and have your 10 syns a day or 15 if you want, let me know how you go x

Hi Abi,

Diary looks good!

I think the difference here is that you've probably been used to losing quite a lot of weight fast - a couple of pounds in a couple of weeks on Slimming World is not to be scoffed at especially when you haven't got as much to lose. If you keep with the plan, making sure you're eating all of your meals whilst getting the superfree, free, healthy extras in - you will lose weight and it will be actual body fat.

You will get to where you need to be in a really healthy way, whilst also instilling healthy, sustainable lifestyle changes while you're doing it.

I have 3 bits of advice;

1. Don't forget your syns! Make sure you're having 5-15 each day, you could even incorporate them into meals if you haven't got a sweet tooth.

2. Drink at least 2 litres of water a day! I would be making sure you have the 2 litres of water a day not including hot chocolate, tea etc. It gets you into a good routine. I always carry a bottle of water around with me, make a conscious effort to drink it then refill when empty.

3. Mix up your food/meals! Try and make each day/week a bit different. If you end up eating the same foods over and over again, you'll get bored and your body will get used to it. Try and make a few new recipes a week or buy a different type of yoghurt next week. For example, this week I've bought some muller light greeks instead of my usual weight watchers yoghurts just for a little change. There are loads on here or check out other people's diaries or the "what's for... breakfast/lunch/tea" threads. Lots of fab ideas!

All the best of luck in your journey - you'll get there and feel fab when you do :) x

So it was weigh in day this morning - I know last thursday I was 10 st 11.5 but id eaten nothing but awful food for days so im sure there was a lot of food weight!

I'm 10st 8.5 this morning, exactly the same as I was on monday morning when I weighed myself...im still convinced slimming world isn't working!!!

Breakfast: 2 weetabix and 150ml 1% fat milk (HEX A&B)
Snacks: Small plum and satsums
Lunch: Vegetable soup (potato, onion, carrot, courgette, pepper, lentils) & aldi forest fruits fat free yog
Afternoon snacks: Small apple & banana

I'll update dinner later!

So you lost 3lbs in a week that is great!! Do not weigh more than once a week and preferably at the same time on the same day each week. Weighing in between is of absolutely no benefit because the only weight you should be recording is the weekly weigh in. I was a serial weigher lol and I have given my sis in law my scales and am going to go to class every Monday not having a clue how I have done. All that matters is that every 7th day the scales are showing a loss and if this week it was 3lbs then sw is working, just trust it and keep up the good work xx
