..because being overweight is no weigh to live. Safi's diary.

Hi everyone,

I'm not really sure where to start with this..so here goes...

I'm a self confessed yo-yo dieter who has finally woken up to the reality that there is no quick fix to weight loss (It's only taken me 22 years ha!). In my aim to lose weight I have yo-yoed and fadded my way to my heaviest weight ever.

After reading some really inspirational stories on here, and seeing some of my friends' successes with Slimming World, I have decided to jump on to the plan myself.

Despite having 75lbs to lose , I have learned that I need to change my focus to being healthy and fit rather than becoming obsessed with the numbers on the scale. So I intend to embrace Slimming World as a new way of life rather than a diet.

I'm keeping a little diary to keep myself on track, and hopefully get advice along the journey to keep me going in the right direction. I shall be mixing days between Original and Extra Easy as too many starches bloat me right out...food baby indeed!

I look forward hearing from you all, and will be following your diaries for menu inspiration. :D

Hi Katie :)

Good luck on your SW journey, I look forward to following your progress :)

My first day of Slimming World is done and I love it!

I have had a lovely day at uni, a really interesting lecture followed by a 2 hour seminar with the poet Andrew McMillan. I didn't really have time for lunch but made sure I had a decent brunch and had fruit to munch going between my lecture and seminar.

The lovely Leah (liliferjade) is visiting today, we ditched what would've been a pub tea and 2 bottle of wine catch up for a SW roast and NAS squash(rock and roll students I know ;) ) but I can honestly say I don't feel deprived at all. We also managed to complete our 30 Day Shred exercise too, which is a mammoth achievement in my tiny room in student halls. I feel sorry for the lad who lives downstairs as I sound like a fairy elephant working out upstairs, hopefully it will be less of the elephant as the weeks and months go by.

I have decided that Monday night is going to be my main treat night of the week as I catch up with the girls, but will aim to stay within my syns allowance.

Anyway, apologies for the rant. Here is my food diary for the day:

Original

B:Wholemeal toast (heB1) and scrambled eggs
L: 2 satsumas and 1 apple
D: Chicken, carrots, brocolli, kale, extra virgin olive oil (heB2)

Snacks: 1 mullerlight, options hot choc (2 syns), milk (heA), Curly Wurly (6 syns)

Total Syns: 8

Yay to no wine and yay to the 30 day shred!

Good idea making Monday night a treat night, Monday's are horrible days so that should brighten it up for you :D

Well, another day, another diary entry...

I'm quite enjoying sitting down to nosey through minimins with a lovely cup of tea at the minute and writing my diary entrys. It's a good chance to wind down and reflect on the day and be proud of any non-weight related victories.

I had another busy day in uni today, I felt rather productive (final semester fear has set in for sure!). I came home for lunch as I had some leftover chicken for a salad and it meant double the walk to go and meet the lovely liliferjade after her lectures.

Had a really good catch up and a potter around the shops. I literally raided the 99p store for Alpen bars to use for heB snacks throughout the day . My mini-victory for the day is: ditching the regular latte I would usually have on my weekly Tuesday study date at the uni cafe for a herbal tea and fresh fruit.

For tea, Leah and I made the Mushy Pea curry -absolutely delicious :p! Plus I have 2 portions leftover and in the freezer ready for the mad stress essay fortnight ahead. I think that the key to success is planning, so I am trying to keep one step ahead.

Anyway, less ramble, more recording.

Extra Easy

B: Porridge (heB) made with skimmed milk (heA), 1 apple
L: Chicken Salad
D: Mushy Pea Curry

Snacks: Strawberries, Mullerlight, apple, Cadbury Fudge (6 syns)

Total Syns: 6

Just a quick side note, I'm not too sure whether alternating between original and extra easy will have a negative impact on my weight loss. I plan to do mostly Original days, but an EE day or two in the week might help me mix things up a bit and stay on plan depending on what is going on in the day.

Any advice would be much welcome.

Thanks :D x

You're absolutely right, planning is the most important thing on the plan I think.

How did you find the mushy pea curry? One of the girls at group tonight was talking about it and she said it was very nice.

As for the original/EE days - I think you can only try mixing them up throughout the week and see if it works for you. I've done nothing but EE for the last three weeks but others don't get on so well with it, whereas I think I might struggle on green days. Give it a bash and see what happens! :)

The Mushy Pea Curry was gorgeous! Really simple to make and good for my student budget too. The recipe makes a huge portion so I have been able to freeze some for a busy few days.

I've struggled on green days in the past, I gained about 4lbs when I stuck to it for a week. I guess everyone is different aren't they, and the beauty of Slimming World is that you can make it work for you by following the plan that fits best.

I shall keep experimenting, post it all on here and see how things go. Thanks for the advice, it's much appreciated :) x

No probs at all! Keep up your diary, they are great to keep us on track :)

The mushy pea curry is defo worth a try... I loved it!!!

I got up early today to get my 30 day shred done, 10 minutes in the fire alarm went off -a regular occurrence in my little student abode, especially in the mornings. There is often the smell of burnt toast lingering between half 7 and 10.

By the time I was dressed, the fire alarm stopped. So I got back in to my workout slobs and went from the beginning. I did level 2 today, I have never done so many planks in my life! I definitely felt the burn, I try to remind myself that the burning means it is working to get me through it. I can't wait to be able to do the highest intensity of L2 all the way.

Have a good day everyone :)

What a day, I feel rather productive!

My volunteering at an after school club began again today, and I have a new group of kids which was lovely. I felt a little nervous today as I had two new volunteers, plus a new set of children so I felt the pressure was on as team leader, things ran smoothly and it was a great afternoon. Today's little victory moment - not having a mini starmix!

I've done some seminar prep for tomorrow, had a tidy round the flat, read and annotated a journal and made dinner this eve. (I say made, I prepared a few meals at the weekend). I feel like the master of making a 500g packet of extra-lean mince going a long way!

I am posting this a little earlier than I would, but I'm off to retire to bed and get started on one of my core texts for my Lit module with a big mug of Options -yum! I'm trying to get in to the routine of going to bed handy and getting up early to do my 30 day shred before uni.

I did an Original day today, and had a little concern that my ibs was flaring up again. I woke up bloating with cramps this morning and thought last night's Mushy Pea Curry was the culprit (I was gutted!), but TOTM has arrived (2nd time this month so felt sorry for myself :sigh:) but on the up side - The Mushy Pea Curry can stay :D
