strawberry's life is changing for good

Hi everyone

After years on minimins and months of extensive reading, snooping, pinching recipes and posting comments I thought it’s finally time to start a diary myself! I have shied away from it until now as I am not the most reliable person in regards to diaries. I never had one during my teenage years; started several but gave up after a week or so!

My name is Lucia, I’m 34 and very much unlike my username suggests, I never, ever tried a strawberry shortcake, probably a good thing as I might like it
I am originally from Germany but have lived in England for over 10 years now. I am happily married (9 years yesterday!!!) and we have a gorgeous son James who is 7!

I have been on a “diet” probably since I hit puberty at 13. I wasn’t overweight but due to a knee problem I was advised to lose weight and that’s where the vicious circle started!
Back then, a shocking 21 years ago, I had to write a food diary and take it to my GP once a week. He would weigh me and then check my diary. I lost weight, enough for me to have an operation and then find out the knee problem had nothing to do with weight! It was a muscle deficiency that could easily be treated with physio. But now the diet bug had implanted itself into my brain!
At the age of 16 I started serious calorie counting staying within 800 – 1000 calories a day. I did that for as long as it took to get me down from 11st to 10st. I stayed round about that weight until the age of 20.
I then went to the USA for 13 months working as an Au Pair. It was lovely, a time I will never forget, but also I time I never thought of dieting once and where I developed a love for huge portions!
I returned to Germany in 2002 weighing 13st. I did try the odd faddy diet, but as we all know that didn’t work!
I moved to England in September 2004 and started Weight Watchers in October 2004. My starting weight was 13st 1lb. I lost an amazing 2st in 3 months and managed to keep it off (even though I didn’t attend group anymore) until I got pregnant in December 2006
I got back to about 12st after I had James (breastfeeding is a god send) but after weaning James and returning to work I massively piled on the pounds.
I tried Weight Watchers again in 2009 but only lasted 5 months or so and after losing 2st I just couldn’t stand being hungry no more.
Fast forward 4 years of weight gain I joined slimming world in February 2013 with a shocking starting weight of 17st 1lb
I managed to lose 2st 7lb within a year but then fell of the band waggon really badly. We bought our first house in March and the stress and obviously money shortage meant I didn’t carry on attending group. In June 2014 I went to a wedding, feeling quite pretty in my outfit, but then I was sent a picture in December 2014 that was taken at that wedding and GOOD LORD I looked hideous!!! Especially as I was sitting next to my friend who is a fair bit slimmer than me and looked gorgeous that day!
That was it….I decided to start back on Slimming World on the 01.01.2015
As money is still tight, and I am quite a stingy woman, oops, I decided to do it on my own from home, knowing that minimins is very helpful. I am not a group person at all and being weighed in front of other people and then having to stand up to my weight loss / weight gain never bothered me. So Group never gave me the incentive to lose weight. It was just a money paying exercise.
I bought the new 2015 slimming world food optimising book off ebay and had a lovely friend of mine, who does attend group, get me the new 2015 food directory and free food booklet.
Now I am all set and I haven’t looked back!
I am now 14st 5lb having lost 2st since the start of the year. I have had a bit of a glitch over Easter gaining 2lb but I managed to get that under control and I’m back on track now.

That’s it….my story so far…sorry it’s so extensive but I needed to wright all this down! Admitting to myself where things have gone wrong and realising how much my life has been controlled by diets. I am NOT on a diet anymore…I AM EATING HEALTHILY with the help of Slimming World. A lifestyle change for good!!!!!

Now here is today’s food:

Breakfast: Aldi fat free greek style yoghurt cherry flavour (0.5 syns)

Well done on your loss so far!
Certainly a difference in the pictures!
You certainly get plenty of help and ideas on minimins :)
My OH half lived in Germany for quite a few years, his ex wife was German too, and he can speak the language fluently :).... He sometimes deliberately speaks to me in German just to wind me up lol, coz I don't understand a word of it:D

Sent from my iPhone using MiniMins

Hi Strawberryshortcake!

Well-done on losing weight, and good luck for losing the rest!

I like your dinner ideas. I think I will be coming to have a peek...

It seems you eat your HexB as cereal - do you eat bread at all? I struggle with the bread allowance but I do Green Days when I can, so have the bread AND the cereal.

My husband is a German teacher (he's English, so not his first language), he teaches in secondary. We've been in Germany many times and really like it there!

Hi silja

Thank you i am very determined to kick this diet habit for good and get to a weight i am happy and healthy at!

I am not too keen on bread...i sometimes keep my hexb for dinner if we have burgers or kfc style chicken but that is an absolute killer...cereal sets me up for the day...on a saturday i might have a sandwich thin with breakfast, because a fry up without bread isn't quite right, lol
But i can quite happily live without bread during the week!
I have never done the red and green days, went straight onto ee when i first joined...i like carbs and i do quite like meat, i think red and green would be too restrictive for me.

More than welcome to pop round for dinner...I love cooking, that's probably the reason i love slimming world :-D

what's Haschee ? minced beef with quark?....how does that work?......sounds interesting :D

You fry onions and mushrooms add minced beef like you would in a bolognese. Then add the stock and simmer. After it is simmered down to a bolognese sauce like consistency take off the heat and add the quark making sure the sauce is not boiling hot anymore. It gives the sauce a bit of a tang. The more quark, the tangier, i always add a whole tub but i love quark!
I then add a bit of salt and pepper and a little paprika to give it some depth but no more than 1 tsp
Serve with pasta! It's lovely :-D :-D

always when shopping seem to buy a tub of quark, then get stuck as to what to do with it :D

So, i've done really well today...well kind of!

Lunch:

Unfortunately, that's when the doing really well ended!

I left work, picked up ds from school and the we went straight in the garden. We planted 30 strawberry plants and did some weeding and then...
...i got us some chippy tea, oops

So it's save to say that my syns are way off the scale but i did enjoy it massively so my guilt factor on the guilt scale is minimal!

Better day tomorrow :-D

I have exactly the same thing with my hubby. I could easily have the same meal 3 times in the week...no chance I could convince hubby to do the same lol
