My new tactic to stop snacking ... well it's worth a try ;)

My downfall for snacking and losing will power to resist treats happens for me late at night. I go to bed quite late but my hubby goes much earlier because he starts so early in the morning. I am really very good about self control and will power during the day but while I am sitting on my own watching telly and winding down after hectic days I tend to start snacking to the point where I often do not stop. So my new plan is to put the treats in the bedroom .... near hubby's side of the bed, in very noisy crinkly plastic bags and tin foil and seed them with Christmas bells. This way it will make so much noise getting a snack and I will feel horribly guilty if I wake up hubby.

(I suppose I could try the no snacks in the house approach, but I recently got a delivery of imported snacks that I love from South Africa, and these arrive in a big box about 3 times a year. A real treat to someone who did not grow up here).

Sometimes I get my husband to hide my snacks esp if I buy multi packs. He then gives me one bar if I ask for it. Maybe if u gave them to your husband you might feel too guilty to wake him up asking for food. But your idea is also a good one. Def worth a try x

Lol, I know that is the best tactic, and I really don't buy snacks for myself. I don't have a big family to cater snacks for either, just my husband who has a taste for shortbread and chips, so apart from these two things I simply don't buy snacks at all ........ except from the South African shop about 3 times per year. A special treat delivered very seldom I don't think is going to mess up my weight loss too much. I received my last delivery in February and still have more than half, so I think I am doing really well. By eking out the snacks to one a week I think I enjoy them even more!

Haha great idea! My technique is to put things under the fruit bowl or in the bottom of the fruit bowl. That way I have to put my hands on or near the fruit before going for the naughty treats which makes me think "STOP WHAT YOURE DOING AND TAKE THE APPLE INSTEAD FATTY!". It works most of the time

This is exactly what I struggle with! My coworkers are constantly telling me how good I am for not snacking which is definitely true at work. I find it very easy to turn down everything on offer there and stick to my diet. But once I'm home, it's a whole different story. I've had about 15 syns worth of junk this evening. Not even hungry, it's just there - leftover from a birthday meal last weekend. And I'd already used my syns sensibly in my meals, so didn't have them going spare.

OH is a snacker and moans if there's nothing in the house, so I've started trying to keep stuff only he likes. It was working until the invasion of the leftovers, at least!

i tend to have some syn free and low-syn snaxcks in to replace what i would otherwise eat.

seafood sticks are syn free and because they are indivually wrapped, they have you fiddling with your hands like you would with chocolates or crisps.

Pre-packed sushi in small packets is great paticularly in the evening when i used to pop out for a cheesy chips or a burger, it takes a while to eat and the small packs can be as little as 1 syn.

I can really relate to this!!
I don't generally snack, I prefer to fill up on a large meal but when I am left on my, it can be dangerous!!
Yesterday, my husband went away on business for a few days. I made myself a lunch of egg and SW chips..all fine there. Not long afterwards, I remembered I had seen half a large bar of chocolate in the cupboard (it is, or should I say was, my husbands!). I scoffed that even though I wasn't hungry...then I started on his crisps. Then I found a lovely tin of shortbread (from Christmas, unopened) and demolished that....and then some meringues, lump of cheese...and so the list goes on. Its been a very long time since I have stuffed my face like that...a very long time but I know I wouldn't have eaten like that if my husband had been around.

Oh dear Lentil, you are like me - once I get started I simply don't stop. But if I don't start at all or, in the morning, carefully measure out treats for late in the evening and tell myself that is the limit, then I manage to keep it under control. The crinkly packet idea has worked by the way!
