eating food

Back to the food thing, yes it will slow down weight loss as you wouldn't experience such a calorie deficit (I'm ignoring the ketosis factor for now!) - an average person needs 2000 cals per day (or 14000 per week) for maintenance, and we have approx 425 per day (or 2975 per week). This means our deficit is (assuming we're 'normal'!) 11025. 1lb of fat is equivalent to 3500 cals, to 11025/3500 = 3.15lbs burnt off.

It therefore stands to reason that if you sub'd 1 shake for a 500 cal meal, suddenly your daily intake increases to approx 750 cals, meaning a weekly deficit of 8750 and so an expected loss of around 2.5lbs.

In terms of ketosis, this occurs when the body runs out of glycogen stores - ie your body has no carbs to burn, so begins burning fat (ketones are the by product, hence ketosis). Therefore if you ate zero carb foods, you WOULD stay in ketosis. After all, Atkins and other low carb diets are all based on eating real food but aim to put you in ketosis. Personally I have just been on holiday and (intentionally!) did not remain 100% TFR - I ate on 3 separate occasions. Each time I chose food that was high protein and low / zero carb (basically just white meat or fish and veg on all 3 occasions) and I remained in ketosis (confirmed with ketostix!) As such, I had no cravings, no hunger, felt full quickly, and have had no problems AT ALL returning to 100% TFR. However - and it's a big however - I think that's very much mental; I had decided before I started Lipotrim that I would still eat a couple of times on hols (I only started 3 weeks ago - it was either have food on hols, or not start LT until I returned - and I couldn't wait that long!) and there was never any question about me returning to it 100% when I got back.

So no, physically it is not difficult to return to TFR after eating (if the foods chosen are appropriate) but I suspect that mentally it very much depends on why you ate in the first place.

wow fair play to you but there is no way i would trust myself with even a nibble

me too i do keep thinking about food but dont have the guts to go off track and hopefully it will stay that way.

Yes - should point out I am not condoning breaking 100% but also to say it IS possible, and therefore not the end of the world if someone does eat. I also wanted to correct the incorrect assumption that ANY food would knock you out of ketosis!

thanks is it just carbs that would knock you out?

I would agree with Lincsbren, I am doing the w8 50/50 programme - two packs plus one very low carb meal and snacks.

I know I am in mild ketosis because I have the horrible taste in my mouth:eek:, and I have lost over a stone in 3 weeks. I did LL for six months SS a few years ago, but it made returning to eating difficult. This time I am still eating as well as using packs. Hopefully this is the best of both worlds, and once at goal, I will stay there:D.

i dont think so because they said you cant even have lemon in your water cuz it will knock you out! last i checked citrus wasnt a carb

Thats what I thought too! I dont know the ins and outs of how the body works and what it coverts into what but when my pharamcist told me not to eat anything and the video backed this up i figured it best to take their advice and not have anything! The whole point of the diet is to try and get you to change the way you feel about food and going cold turkey (apologies couldnt think of any other phrase) is the best way to do this.

Ive not let anything other than water, LT and green tea pass my lips in the last 15 days and it has definately got easier. I think if I tasted anything now, whether it be carb or protein it would break me and id want more!

Best to stick to nothing and feel proud of yourself for doing it.

If someone is really struggling it may be worth to pick a different diet where you can eat but still lose the weight.

100% agreed! of course i would love a slice of pizza or a chinese but im not going to have one! all it takes is the realisation that once you've eaten whatever rubbish you've chosen to eat its gone! thats it!
if i've discovered anything on this diet its that even though i may want the shepards pie everyone else is having i have my shake go have a shower and when i get out i feel just as full as if i had eaten the shepards pie and just as happy!
where we develop this relationship with food i have no idea but it definitely needs to be addressed for each and everyone of us. if we had a healthy approach to food we wouldnt need lipotrim in the first place! as emmielou says stick to it!

I think the problem with lemons is that they contain citric acid and that takes us out of ketosis if we eat it. Even though I can have low carb veg and protein, I cannot have lemons.

I have been doing the w8 50/50 programme for nearly four weeks now and feel comfortable with it. I don't have the highs and lows that come with eating my comfort foods (carbs and sugar in particular). I don't have any passion for eating now, it is just something I have to do at certain times of the day, nothing to get excited about.

It makes me think about why I atre for comfort. What is comforting me now??

Echo AmandaJayne - fruits have natural sugars, which ARE carbs!

i think thats the biggest problem we face on this diet trying to establish what exactly drove us to food. for me i dont see food as a comfort but my battle was definitely greed!! i know this now!

fair play to you amanda jayne for doing the 50/50 i think it probably wouldnt be the best diet for me as i know i wouldn't be strict where as on TFR i have no choice

my feelings with tfr and people eating food on it basically i just dont see the point. if you are gonna eat of tfr just do the 50/50 because TFR requires serious commitment

Hi there Vanilly:wavey:,

I am aways in awe of people who do the SS with whatever VLCD they are doing. I did LL a few years ago and SSed for nearly six months , losing over 100lbs. I found the refeeding difficult, so this time (yes, I put a lot of it back on:mad:) I am trying the 'half way' method, and w8 seems to offer a real flexible alternative which includes my own low carb meal, three snacks, treats (wine, coke zero, 3 cubes dark choc). So I can socialise and not feel 'different'. Again, I am in it for the long haul, but I have learned a lot through and since LL and feel that this time I will succeed in conquering my food demons. Fingers crossed;).
