Slimming for my children
Hi guys,

I have no idea about the internet and gb useage,

Basically I just got a text from my broadband provider saying I have used 15gb of my 20gb allowance until 3rd July I have 5gb left.

The only thing that's different is that I have been watching big brother on demand 5?
Normally we use it for Facebook, my husband plays games he's downloaded from apps, minimins emails and eBay?

Is someone able to explain to me in an idiots guide please? Xxxx

It's the on demand stuff that's using up your allowance, nothing else there would use up all that much of it. Streaming/downloading videos is probably where most peoples usage goes these days - it's simply because it uses a lot of bandwidth to watch videos, especially HD ones. Here's a rough estimate of different things and how much MB/GB they "cost":

1 hour of instant messaging 0.25-1MB
1 hour of web browsing 1.5-25MB
Download 100 emails 1-10MB
1 hour Skype call 180MB
1 hour Skype video call 219MB
Download 1 photo 0.05-2MB
Download 1 MP3 3-8MB
Download 1 film trailer 7-50MB
1 software download 5-800MB
Download 1 film 700MB-1.5GB
Streaming 1 hour of video (standard definition) 50-500MB
Streaming 1 hour of video (high definition) 1-2GB
Streaming 1 hour of audio 50-150MB
