Crochet crochet crochet... Love it!

i am a crochet addict too. i just love making baby hats. so quick and you can make then every so colourful :D

I learned when I was tiny and have done it on and off all my life...

recently I started again doing very fine crochet to make blankets for my dolls house beds... I have about 35 houses

I've given up on the crochet & decided only to use if for decorating my knitting edges!

Ok I'm a knitter but I want to learn to crochet.:) When buying the needles what do I have to look out for. I want to buy a set so I have all the hook sizes which is best bamboo, aluminum or plastic.Anything else I should look out for?

Hi
Oh you are doing the right thing, crochet is sooo much better than knitting! You can get soft grip hooks and if you can go for these do as they're better for your hands. Typically they're expenny. I can't get on with plastic ones as they're too bendy so I always use the grey metal ones (though getting soft grip soon as hand does hurt if I do a few hours - it is horribly addictive. Some people love bamboo but not sure why.

Go on ravelry.com for great inspiration and check out some of the crochet blogs like attic24, le monde du sucrette, little tin bird, Sarah London, Emma lamb etcetcetc! You will have projects queuing up in your mind faster than you can hook them! I'm making this at the moment...

Spent the last hour or so watching youtube videos.I got it now. :) Now to try and make something.

Good luck! I think you can do both but few can do both well. I absolutely cannot knit at all. With crochet you can make things as big as you like so I find knitting really limiting. If you want you can do a blanket that has 40000 chains!

i am also a crochet addict i have made many blankets over the years and many hats for boys and girls, and there was a time when i was making lots of crocheted roses

but at the moment i am in the possess of making a rag rug from old duvet covers , i am using a really thick hook , and cutting the duvet into about 1 inch strips .
i was thinking of trying the t-shirt yarn , and using old t shirts , i did go round the charity shops for old t shirts but i though they were to expensive at about 3.50 for 1 t-shirt

youtube has a few videos on there about t-shirt yarn and how to cut them up , and make into rugs

I love crochet as well. Have made many blankets, hats, scarves, amigurumi toys, pincushions, bags and all sorts.

Do you have a Primark near you MAYY? They sell tshirts for £1.50 which would give you plenty of homemade yarn for cheap I think.

Oh thanks for that,i did not think about primark, it seems they are even cheaper than the charity shops .

Sounds interesting, do you have a photo of your work in progress?

i have now finished 2 rugs , which are now on either side of our double bed, i will have to get photos done, they work up real quick, i think cutting the material into strips takes longer than the crocheting does, the one rug was made from a duet cover for only £1;99 from a charity shop , it was in really nice condition as well , and at that price i had to grab it as it was a doublebed size and went a long way . dont know why but i felt a little guilty cutting it up as it looked nearly newLOL

I'm just starting out with crochet, I really don't know what I'm doing so am just watching video's on YouTube to try to teach myself. I bought a baby shawl to make and I want to make a good job of it so I'm reluctant to start it until I really practice with the squares first.

I taught myself to knit and crochet just over a year ago.. YouTube videos is how! I even sell my projects now! X

I can't knit to save myself but I can spend hours at a time crocheting different things, im currently smothered in crochet blankets of varying sizes. Just finished my 2nd corner2corner baby blanket, i love how quickly you can throw them together.

Taught myself how to crochet off videos and loving it only made blankets and granny squares so far. Learning bout amigurumi Atm xx

Enjoy! It's very relaxing. Only problem is that it has you glued to a chair instead of burning this cals, but it's really great to make lovely things and a good thing to do to unwind
