Days off??

Hiya

Do any of you have a day off the diet each week? I'm thinking of having Thursdays off (my work day off too) but on the other hand don't want to ruin my diet but saying that I rarely eat over 5 syns a day anyway. I seem to manage on about 2-3 syns and not be hungry ect. Weigh days are Sundays so what do you all think?

Nope! I have a treaty night on saturday but that's within my weekly syns. I don't really see the point in having a whole day off, if you want to lose weight surely you need to just keep at it, keep your head in the right place to lose and get on with it! Just an opinion :)

Thinking about it I agree with you. I'd probably end up feeling guilty about it lol so I may try what you do. Thing is I know that if I'm 100% all the time in about 4-5 weeks I'll fall off plan and eat rubbish. Trying to find a happy medium

I ahve to say if I'm 'on plan' I won't have a day off, I will save my syns for the weekends, when I tend to have a drink, but then use 5 syns or less per day in the week so I come in within my weekly syn allowance. If you took a day completely off, I think you'll constantly be playing catch up and cutting back the rest of the week for the sake of one day.

Can I ask if there's a reason why you want a day off plan? Can you incorporate what you want to eat in to your weekly syns?

Def not! Although I do save my weekly syns if j have a special something on. Need to think lifestyle change not diet :)

I asked as I heard it mentioned this week that some people have a day off and I wondered if it was a good idea. I have not had a day off as I sai earlier I would probably feel guilty. Just seeing what others do really. I have agreed with hubby we have a fake away night :) he can choose Indian Chinese ect and I do it the SW way

I do that we had KFC style chicken and the other night we had a full
Chinese banquet sw style. I do t enjoy a takeaway the same as I used to. I don't do doner kebabs but i make it for hubby and it tastes the same minus the grease:) there will be times I
Will go off plan in the future I'm sure but not pre planned each week ;)

I don't have a day off, no. I slip back into old habits so easily that my day would turn into a week.

I do go over my syns a few times a week due to emotional eating and complete lack of will power and I still lose...however I weigh 16.5 stone so have a lot to lose; I'm fully aware that I won't get away with it forever!

No I don't see the point. Sw isn't a diet and in order for it to be effective in the long term you need to view it as a lifestyle change. If you talk about having a "day off the diet" then you aren't changing the habits that made you overweight in the first place, and as im sure most people here know that is the only way to permanently lose weight. When I go on holiday I will not take my food optimising book and food diary, however I believe by now I've learnt enough about how to eat healthily to limit the damage. I will make healthy choices and use moderation on the things that I know are high in syns. I am certain I will gain, but (for want of a better word) most "normal" eaters do on a holiday, then get straight back to healthy habits to sustain the weightloss for life. (please understand when I say "you" its not directed at you personally! Just people in general, perhaps I should have said "one would") :)

I don't have days off as if I said to myself I was having a day off I would just binge. Like the other day I went out for lunch, allowed myself a dessert even, but promised myself for the rest of the day I wouldn't binge, or eat any syns. In the past I would have thought stuff it and just ate rubbish for the rest of the day!! I do maybe have a take away once a week but something quite low like chicken chow mein from chinese or chicken or doner kebab with salad so I'm not doing too much damage but still having a treat. I find not being so strict but strict enough so I don't binge if I have a treat works for me. The rest of the time I'm 100% on plan eating about 6-10 syns a day.

Personally I couldn't trust myself with a day off, I too would just binge crazily and feel too guilty... But I have read of others doing it and still losing good amounts. But I would recommend like the others have said and just allow yourself a treat night, your Thursday off for example, but use flexible syns and keep it in your weekly limit :) Still a lovely treat to look forward to and enjoy immensely without completely going off plan and suffering the guilt :p

IMO if you do that you have to be ready for a gain or STS or a slower loss, I must admit over the whole of my journey if I fancied something I'd have it, eg a meal out, if I could choose something SW friendly then I would but if I couldn't I wouldn't beat myself up about it,

It is a lifestyle change as everyone has said above, my consultant often says that effortlessly slim people will have what they fancy then eat healthily afterwards to compensate, and I like to think I do the same now too.

In short if you can deal with a slower loss and longer journey to target then I'd say have your 'off day' just remember to get back on it again afterwards.

i have to agree with other posts sw is more of a healthy lifestyle sometimes i do go off plan but its not every week and not for a whole day sometimes it just cant be avoided if its a meal out and depending on the choice of food available its easy for the syns to add up balance is the key. if you know your off out at the weekend keep syns low and do plenty of excercise

or make syn free meals that feel naughty i made syn free burgers with a hex a cheese middle in a wholemeal roll hex b with salad and gherkins and sw chips omg that was a good tea

I have a friend who has an "off day" every week after WI and she's lost she'd loads of weight. It works for her and she is superrrr good for the rest of the week. That's her life style change so if she wants to go out for a meal that will be the only day she will go out on. The rest of her days are more like 1/2 of every meal full of SF and little carbs..

Personally? No way!!! Lol I couldn't do that. And wouldn't want too.

People are right in saying that it is a life style change but if I could get away with only needing to be on plan for 6 days of the week i would jump at the chance but sadly that's not the case.

I wouldn't suggest it...
