Hello...Supplements or not?

Hello fellow Atkiners,

Am on first week on my induction, trying to move hypothyroid induced 5 stone and am drinking gallons of water, have come through the horrid four day wobble and feel like I can settle into a pattern now. I am taking a few supplements but wondered if anyone had found anything to be of particular benefit, either with stablising energy through the day or helping metabolise the fat?

I've done atkins previously (10 years ago) but didn't need to lose anywhere near as much as now, so think I may need a bit more help.

Thanks : )

Hi FD - just seen your intro post on the main board. Welcome:D

I like to keep it pretty simple - i have a multivit without iron (dont want to get bunged up), vit c, echinea (sp?) when i think a cold is near and physillium capsules for the first month while my insides got used to it

Some others have a better view of the more specialist supps!

Keep posting and feel free to start a diary in our diaries section

Thank you Katie : )

first what a fantastic loss! That is the kind of thing that keeps people going : )

Thank you for the welcome and the info...like you I am taking the multi vit and c, but have also added pantothenic acid and biotin...mainly because they are supposed pretty good at energy but are not toxic at any level. I suppose I am trying to have something in reserve to try if I stall, and I thought having a base of supplements might work, but it's pretty confusing finding out what works and what doesn't

Hugs : )

I take an a-z multi vit with minerals every day

Hi Tristar,

Great loss you have : ) I spoke to a colleague yesterday who is an old hand at low carb and he takes pretty much everything in the Atkins book, but as I am on a limited budget and don't fancy a mortgage just to get supplements, will stick to what I am doing I think.

Hi welcome and good luck.

Thanks Pat : )

Am sure I'll be off the wagon a few times, but it's the getting back on that counts. Am thinking of having an 'off night' once once a week but worried it will shut down weight loss. Going to have a good read of diaries and see how others have coped.

Thanks again

Morning FD, how is it going?

I would strongly recommend not having a weekly off day/meal - you really dont get all the benefits of atkins if you keep yoyoing in/out of ketosis. See the sticky - thinking of cheating. Now i do recommend a treat every 4-6 weeks. I have really enjoyed planning and having some special events and nights out - i still didn't choose bread/pasta etc but otherwise had anything i liked including chocolate desserts! Downside is you usually feel rough the next day

You will have to decide what suits and it's all a bit trial and error - good luck:)

Ps Oh yes - my weekly treat is an atkins bar! Lol

I'm on a strict budget. Between the 2 of us we are bringing in £23k less money into the house this year salarywise. Arrghhh!!! I buy my supplements from Sainsburys (their own make). They are only about £2 to £3.

Thanks for your encouragement, and good luck with your losses xx

Hi Katie,

Am good thanks, hope you are too. I;ll have a look at that thread...although I think I will try and stick to it religiously, because my problem is once I start eating carbs, I just can't stop,it's like every one of them is a damn pringle carton! : )

I do like the idea of having a bar or something treat wise but maybe for a month I think I'll steer clear of anything that might set off an awe inspiring binge.

Hugs : )

Wow Tri, Sorry to hear that, it's a hard budget adjustment! {{{U}}}

I normally get my supplements from Tesco! They are pretty reasonable, but I do look out for any Holland and Barrat specials, but I dare say there isn't a lot of difference, just get it in my head they work better :D

Keep up the good work, we'll be slinky malinky in no time : )
