Multivitamins

Hi all

Do any of you take a multivit? If so what ones, do you think they work and does it help weightloss? A friend of mine said her doctor recommended them when trying to lose weight? Also do they really stop you getting ill?

Thanks x

You shouldn't need to take them if you are eating a healthy balanced diet - which of course you are on SW. I don't think the doctor is recommending them as a means to improve losses, only to ensure your friend is getting all the nutrients she needs.

you won't lose any weight taking vitamins...

always make sure you check with your GP because if you take multiple vitamins you can easily overdose, and some vitamins cannot be removed by your body, thus overdose = poisoning. Same applies when if you are on other meds or have any medical problems.

No, theres no reason to take vitamins if you're following the plan properly.
I take iron but thats just because I dont eat much meat. On days when I do eat meat I just dont take the iron. Some vitamins/minerals such as iron you *can* have too much of, others such as vitamin C you have to fill up on every day as they're not 'stored'.

Thankyou people x

Why not talk to your own GP?
One of the vitamins you can take are the B group vitamins, these help with red cell production, vitamin b 6 is good for PMS (my doc prescribes me a large dose of this even though I've had a hysterectomy), B complex vitamins are good for energy levels too.
I'm prescribed Pregaday for Iron and Folic acid as I'm deficient in these.
I also take vitamin D and Calcium combined ( but not the same time as iron as calcium inhibits absorption).
Do take a vitamin c supplement, Tesco do a lovely effervescent raspberry one that tastes much better than the chewable orange flavoured ones. And excess Vitamin c is eliminated jn urine.
Be careful of vitamin a, iron, and other heavy metals such as zinc, as too much is toxic.

Wow a wealth of knowledge thanks!

When I was a morbidly-obese, insulin-dependent, healthy-food-hating, out-of-control diabetic (bit of a clue there) I used to take a multi-vitamin.

Now I'm a target-weight, healthy, non-insulin taking fruit-and-veg-loving individual I no longer need to take one.

It won't help with weightloss, and realistically you should be getting all the vitamins and goodness you require from a healthy and balanced. Worked for me;)

As for PMS, is that the same as PMSL but no laughing matter? lol
