Just wondering - PE in school, i still have nightmares...i used to hide in the toilets... i can still see the tape machine in my minds eye...

The sheer and utter horror of the 'beep machine' its a scurge upon humanity (certainly the fat kids worst nightmare)...oh the humanity.

    Horror. Shudder.

Did anyone else go to lengths to avoid it?? Toilets were a favourite and i even resorted to going to the school therapist JUST to avoid it...i scheduled my sessions to suit that class - til she wised up...grrrrrrrrrrr!

The irony is i would have LOVED to be apart of a netball team or any team (but there wasnt any)

Just the horrific beep test machine...where you run to the beeps...the HORROR.

Hey - count yourself lucky! We were made to run through the village in track briefs (large pants, invented by sadists) and an airtex tshirt (tucked in, both with our initials embroidered on in house colours), so all the local lads could shout at us, then through a muddy field, in the cold and damp!

Beeps? I'd have KILLED for beeps! (tee heeee!)

Ours was a cross country run round the roads, past all the shops...on and on, in navy blue school knickers and school blouse:confused:

Didn't mind too much until I got to 15 or 16, then I objected. Not sure why I objected, because I never did it anyway...well, not after the first time. X country meant picking up my bike left outside the school. A trip home for a fag and cuppa, bike ride back and hey presto....done :D Bored of that by aged 15, so I made excuses

Our PE teacher used to keep a diary with my excuses in it. I remember her saying that her diary showed that I had had a period for 12 weeks in a row:eek:

    I remember saying "that's a relief...I thought I was pregnant this morning".

    She was not amused.

Oh and BTW, You could use that as an excuse for X country because the sanitory wear in those days was neither secure or invisible with just knickers on.

It was considered okay in front of a teacher (male or female), but not in front of the general public:eek:

Sorry men. Sure you didn't really need to know that

My painful PE memories are just about every single pe session - sheer torture.:( We had to wear pale blue all-in-one terry towelling jumpsuit things which showed every ounce of flesh! Fine for your boobs  but not the spare tyres:mad: , AND we had to do PE with the boys... this is at high school aged 11 - 16.

Showers! (without curtains!!!!) Well , I had alternating veruccas and periods! NEVER took a shower after PE!

Sadistic basta*ds!  Hate them still... scarred for life! :(

  No wonder fat kids turn into fat exercise-hating adults!  It's humiliation on a socially-accepted abusive scale... oooh... you've got me going now!

    I better go to bed!!!

Oh yes. We had the showers with no curtains :( Only took a shower once there, owing to the fact that I used to get out of PE.

I was really active though, but never the sports that were given in PE, except they did start this fantastic 'Games' lesson, where all the schools got together and offered a huge variety of activities.

I did archery and fencing, plus other things, but being very objectionable and rebelious at that age, I didn't make the most of it :(

My skinny but muscular son loves sport. Helps teach gymnastics in the local gym 2 times a week. Does Parkour every day, and is always on the move in some activity or other.

Gets below average grade for PE at school because he's not keen on football or rugby.:mad:

Needless to say, he hates PE and though he would like to be a PE teacher, he hasn't even chosen PE for his GCSE option. Such a shame.

Now WHY can't the school get it into their heads that just because he isn't into the 2 (in my opinion) most boring sports ever invented  (apart from the fact that the rugby players thighs have a hypnotizing effect!;) )... makes him any less valued - what reason is that to penalise him! Makes me seeth! What a shame about his options... you never know though... he might get into it via the practical route and end up with all manner of qualifications after school!:D

I think the PE teachers when I was at school were all wannabe army instructors but failed the exam! (with one exception... an adonis whom we all idolised!)
