I am newly diagnose T2 also and not on any meds as yet. Just to keep in mind also, fruit was something that I was told to watch for us diabetics. I had gestational diabetes during the four of my pregnancies and was always told that while fruit has fructose and is a natural sugar, we still have to be careful so fruit is not really free for us as it still elevates our blood glucose just the same as carbs or a bar of chocolate. I have just a banana every day. This is high in carbs and fructose but all the same, it means that I have some fruit intake. I certainly would not eat unlimited bananas, apples etc. So just something to keep an eye on. I use myfitnesspal not only to keep track of calories while losing weight but to check my intake of sugar and fat. I am following slimming world loosely however but just modify it with issues like fruit, as I said. Make sure to also try to eat wholegrain bread if using as your HEXb and wholewheat spaghetti/pasta instead of white because of its lower GI value and because its much healthier and has more fibre.
