A christmas poem for my Dad

Blonde Logic

Yes. You can.
I just found this in my docs. I had meant to post this at Christmas but forgot!! ANyway, there were a fair few of us missing our dads, so I thought I would share. I'm no Shakespeare, but the sentiment is true.

Today I saw you smile at me
Through an old mans eyes
It’s clever how you do that trick
And catch me by surprise

And Christmas Morning,
I found a shell
At my feet while at the sea
It didn’t take me long to know
You were standing there with me

A seashell here, a feather there
A cold and windy day
A rainbow in a sunless sky
Mean you have passed my way

So long ago you said goodbye
But how was I to know
Those words would be the last I heard
You knew. How did you know?

If only, maybe, for a moment
I could hear your voice again
It’d be the sweetest sound I’d know
And I’d pray it never end

I’ve come so far since you’ve been gone
Though it feels like yesterday
Days to weeks,
To months to years
Since you went away

My life has changed in many ways
There’s been a lot tears,
But I wish that you could see me now,
I’m healed. There’s no more fear.

So now I look in other places ,
And see you in different ways
It’s not the same, it does not compare
It couldn’t - that’s no surprise

Until we meet again dear dad,
I’ll be patient, I will try,
Hoping for a glimpse of you
Smiling through an old man’s eyes

That's really good and so true.

I lost my Dad just over 2 years ago (Aged 48) He is an amazing man and I worshipped him.
Still haven't even began to accept it but I take great comfort in similar things, like smelling something that reminds me of him, or laughing at things I know he would have enjoyed. I also laugh at myself when I do something stupid and know he's sat watching me laughing along.

Thanks for posting that, it's really made me smile.

Oh my god H. As if I haven't been crying enough already this morning.;) That reallllly got to me.

My god, what a beautiful song!!! I can't believe I have never heard that, thought to be honest, that is the first time I have heard LVD that I know of anyway - never have had any of his music. MIght change that - what a lovley voice he has!

Thanks for that. I think. lol

Thanks BL... just got through the first anniversary - never easy... stunning poem... will pass on to my bro and sis if that's ok? x

Wasn't so sure about the song - a bit gushy for me and not very well arranged... but then I still have a lot of anger and things to work through... thanks for the heads up though Huseyin.

A xx
