A syn or a healthy extra?

Hello everyone,

I'm starting Slimming World online today and am a bit confused.

30g Parmesan / Parmigiano Reggiano / Grana Padano is a healthy extra but is it also 6 syns.

Do I ignore the syn value when having the cheese as an healthy extra or does it still count towards my daily syn allowance?

Also, if I have more than one healthy extra from a group(i.e 30g of parmesan and then 500ml sweetened calcium enriched plain almond drink) does the second portion count as a syn?

Thank you.

Hi RoseRed :)

Yeah if you're having it as a HexA then ignore the syn value, but if you have two portions then you will have to syn one yes.

For example for my breakfast I had 2 Weetabix (HexB) with 200ml Semi Skimmed Milk (HexA). For lunch I've got a jacket potato and if I were to have 40g reduced fat cheddar on it then I would have to count the cheese as 5 syns, but if I had that cheese in an omelette for breakfast instead it would be free because it would be the HexA.

Does that make sense?
