Are you around 23st 7lb and on Slimming World ?

paul1978

DO NOT QUIT !
Anyone at or around the 23 st 7 lb mark ??? I am.

If so, and if you are doing Slimming World, how much do you lose each week at this weight ?

It's all about speed to me. I want this to come off the quickest way possible. I have been very successful with a VLCD in the past, and felt comfortable with it but have read that some people this weight also lose around a stone per month on SW, so I wanna see if it's likely that I will lose that much on SW or if I should go back to VLCD for the guaranteed losses.

Thanks for any replies.

Hope you dont mind me saying Paul that speed in my opinion is the very last thing you should be looking at (saying that I'm slimming for my wedding - so I'm keen to lose it as well!). SW is based on balanced food for a good and healthy life style. No diet can offer quick fixes

Sorry... lecture over - back to your question I started at 20 stone 5 and lost 4 and half stone in 5 months. So yeah - nearly a stone a month on average for me. It came off a lot quicker to start and now I'm below 16 stone it's slower. 1-2lbs per week now (still over half stone per month)

I started at 24 st 4 lbs

In 24 weeks I have lost a smidge under 5 stone.

I have been very successful with a VLCD in the past,

Can I ask, have you maintained the loss you managed with the VLCD? If you have why not carry on with what you know works for you?

If you havent I think you've answered your own question. VLCDs are good to lose a lot, quickly, but arent sustainable in the long term for most people.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't do them, but SW is not in itself a VLCD (although you could eat this way AND not eat many calories) - its a long term lifestyle choice to change the way you eat and think about food. Its possible to lose fast and its also possible to lose slowly depending on what and how much you eat and what else you do. But if you do lose fast it's not likely you'll stay at that rate for very long. Most people lose quickly to begin with and then it tapers off.

Personally I started at 27st 9lb and am (as of today) 20st 00lb exactly, thats taken 51 weeks (its my SW anniversary next week :D ), so an average of 2lb a week which is pretty standard. Some people lose a bit faster than that, some slower. Looking at my history the 1st 12 weeks averaged 2.8 a week so it has slowed down a bit but not massively.

Youll get "guaranteed losses" on BOTH a VLCD and SW but youre a lot more likely to KEEP them off on a long term healthy eating plan such as SW or similar - especially at the weight that both you and I are (no disrespect). You've really got to learn how to eat healthily and how to manage your relationship with food. If you dont do that you wont keep it off, I promise you. I expect you dont have a great relationship with food if you've managed to get to this weight as most of us dont, again, speaking from someone of a similar weight to you.

Good luck whatever you choose x :)

my husband started at 23st 9lb and lost just under 9 stone to hit target (15st)in 8 months. he has been maintaining for 14 months now x

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I havent kept the weight off, but thats my fault as I have had some very big worries and problems and have gone back to comfort eating big-time (I didnt keep to the new eating habits), which can happen on any diet. I am tempted to go back to the VLCD as that has been the most successful I have ever been with losing weight, but I have been told by a friend that SW is also very good, so I am trying to weigh (sorry !) each diet up.

I lost my 1st 6 stone within 7 months, this last month I am only 1.5lbs lighter than I was before xmas as I have just played around a bit.

Well tbh this is why I think SW would be a better plan. You say you went bck to comfort eating and "didnt keep to the new eating habits". Its very tough to be able to keep to eating habits like a VLCD but what I love about SW is that you would never know it was any sort of 'diet' of any sort of food out of the ordinary. Well, depending on what you cook, I mean if you live on Smash pizza and low syn ready meals and stuff it might be tougher to stick to when times are hard, but its also possible to make seriously yummy stuff that theres no reason to give up. Its possible to eat amazing stuff, check out my diary here. Theres no way I need to not do this now.

Anyway, sorry to hear things have been tough for you. I think you should at least give SW a go, what have you got to lose? Even at only 2lb a week thats 8 stone in a year and its 8 stone that can STAY gone, rather than just putting it all back on again when times are tough.

Here's some yummy food btw. Surely losing 8 stone in a year eating this stuff AND KEEPING IT OFF is better than losing 3 stone in 3 months then putting it all back on again when life falls apart? (Life will frequently fall apart :( )

:D Yeah but the thing is I had some (not all of it ;) ) and I've til lost nearly 8 stone in a year! You dont get that on a VLCD :(

I started SW a month ago and have lost 11.5lbs ;) best eating plan ive ever done (hate the word Diet) it has taught me to look at food in a whole diffrent way..to think what i'm putting into my body for lasting effects not to just fill a craving. I havent felt hungry in that time, never cooked so much diffrent tasty foods before, i do EE but with the Red/Green plan also there is plenty of choice for peoples diffrent needs/requirements.

I did cambridge weight plan for 1 week last year..not for me im more of a foodie myself, i felt like a social lepar when eating out/socialising.. "hold on till i whip out my pouch of tasteless/bland powder to mix up"

SW all the way for me..and it took me a couple of years to get to the weight im at..whats another year to get me to target and keep it off with all the Food Optimising im learning.

Id give it a go it may surprise you :D

In just under 9 1/2 months I've lost just shy of 7 1/2 stone.

That was with messing about in the first few weeks and my losses starting to slow slightly, but that could be down to a few factors.

I'm averaging 2 1/2lb a week, there abouts, and that is perfectly fine for me. I hope to get to the 10 stone loss mark by my birthday- which will have taken 13 months ish from start to finish.

I've had a couple of months where I've lost a stone in the whole month, thats not every single month, but I tend to lose between 11-13lb a month average.

ETA- I started at 22 1/2 stone

Dont worry about speed all thats important is that it works!! Quick fix diets usually arnt long term- the quicker it comes off the easier it goes back on :( Give it a go for a few weeks and see for yourself! and choose which way is best for you red/green/EE. Im doing EE and find myself rarely hungry due to the many free foods etc. Its sometimes feel that you are not even dieting! And I have never tried and cooked so many different foods! Just Love It! Give it a go :D

I've done a vlcd and although I lost weight quick it piled back on and more in a 3rd of the time!

With sw I've lost 3 stone 5lbs and I've gone through my dad having cancer and dying at 61 and I still stuck to plan as its not a diet its teaching you to eat properly!

I was 19 stone when I started and I'm now pregnant which is why my weight has stopped at 15 stone 9lbs but if sticking to sw means I don't gain and lose a few stone when I POP baby out I will be one happy lady and a vlcd can't do that!

My husband was 21 stone although carries it well and has been losing 4-6 lb a week ...we are quite active too and train most days also him being military. I'm hoping this is a lifestyle change though for us both that way the weight stays off however long it's takes.

I'm enjoying the journey too :)

Im sorry that is just SO not the case. It doesnt matter a bit how you lose weight what determines your success is what you do once youve lost it, go back to your old eating habits and the weight will go back on no matter what diet youve lost it on.

There are as many restarters on SW/WW etc as there are on the VLCDs and just as many success stories on the VLCDS as there are on SW/WW

I've done a vlcd and although I lost weight quick it piled back on and more in a 3rd of the time!

But that wasnt the fault of the diet. It did what it says on the tin, it got the weight off you. If it piled back on again afterwards thats not the fault of CD or whoever you lost it with.
