wondered if anyone else had the same situation where they had a bmi over 40 and the dr refused to sign the form? im not on any medication and apart from having a bmi of 47 i have no other medical problems and never have. not that age should come into it, but im 24, so i dont see why he wouldnt sign it. all i was told was that its "against the guidelines". have since switched to another doctor who im seeing on thursday, im determined to do cambs ss, but just wondered if anyone else has had this probleem, and if not, what did your gp's say when you visited them?

never heard of that b4, u clearly have weight to lose. i went on the exante diet and it is working for me, u can check the website out, and it is cheaper than the cd. good luck x there is more joining on the forum for exante too so plenty of support, worth a check.

It is my understanding that GPs have the right to refuse signing you off on these plans if it goes against their beliefs and practises. If you have a doctor who is dead against meal replacement programs or very low calorie diets, he or she can legally say no. They can also have a policy at some surgeries not to sign off on such plans so the bad news is while it's annoying, it's legal and hard to fight.

The best thing to do is contact your surgery at ask what it's policy is on such matters. If there is another doctor happy to sign you off, see them instead. It may be worth asking your GP what they would recommend plan wise. You may find they offer you free slimming club membership instead which while it's not the plan you are after, is better than walking away with nothing and it hasn't cost you a penny.

According to the NICE guidelines, they are supposed to support you. Furthermore, the signature is for them to sign not to say whether they agree with the diet, but to sign to say the info is correct and they are aware that one of their patients has a high BMI and so other health issues could need investigating.

It really is nothing to do with 'their opinion'. But, they are allowed to do blanket bans on giving signatures out for various reasons.

All is not lost though. If anyone does have a problem getting a signature, then your consultant should contact medical who will probably send the doctor a pack that explains the diet in detail and confirms that it is approved by everyone that matters, follows the NICE guidelines and all EU regulations.

If that doesn't work, Cambridge will look at each case individually.

    Best of luck

    Hello there

This is another option for you to consider... go to SW or WW until your BMI is under 40 and then switch to CD for a faster weight loss.

I do understand and respect these doctors' decisions/choices but having weight to lose causes so many problems in itself doesn't it... far more than any VLCD would cause surly... but I'm no expert obviously.

I wish you luck in whatever you choose to do, but please don't give up on the idea of losing weight, because one doctor refuses to sign your form.

If you do SS+ you don't need to see your doctor, and the weight loss is only a pound less a month than SS.
