I know nothing about fennel, but i want to try it. anyone got any ideas how to cook it, what to have it with? what does it taste like?

oh does it? i don't overly like aniseed either, but it's used so much on so many cooking shows i feel like i need to try it! thanks for those! :)

I had some in my veg box this week. I'm not a big fan of aniseed but it is quite subtle in flavour and I like it. It's nice sliced very thinly raw in salads, or cooked. I'm going to slice mine up and braise it in stock in the oven, then when it's almost done, I'll put some fresh fish on top to cook for 10 minutes. Served with new potatoes, i think it will be lovely.
