Hi everyone!

My name is Sam and I'm 27 years old. I just had my first child, a little boy named Jack, 8 weeks ago and am now looking to lose weight for my wedding next year on 31st august.

I am exclusively breastfeeding so I have been recommended the slimming world diet as it is safe for breastfeeding mothers. I haven't done slimming world in 3 years so I'm going to need a little help getting my head around it again, so I'm hoping you guys can help me there :) from what I've seen I need to eat an additional 4 healthy extras a day to make sure I get the recommended calcium intake?

I have just under four and a half stone to lose and am hoping to lose the majority of it by the new year so that I can start trying on wedding dresses!

Any help anyone can give me' would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance and I look forward to getting to know you all!

hi sam,
just some words of encouragement.
i joined sw after the birth of my second son,he's 14 now.....i lost a stone in 2 weeks, much to my surprise.
i remember how ravenous breast feeding made me feel, and i always wanted to eat and because youre sat there for half an hour its easy to do.im sure following sw with the extra healthy extras will keep you going, there are nice nectarines in the shops at the moment, though i found some fruits seemed to upset the babies tummy, grapes for some reason! the first 3 months with a new baby are pretty hectic.look after yourself.
best wishes daisy

Thanks daisy! Do you know how many extra healthy extras I have to have if I'm exclusively breastfeeding my 8 week old? I think I saw somewhere it was 4 extra, so 8 in total? It just seems a lot. I can't find the SW while breastfeeding sticky :-( I may just be being blonde though (I am blonde so I can say that lol) it may be because I'm using the app? I also need a reminder of what the healthy extras are and weights/portions etc so if you can shed any light that would be great. X

Thanks jo! I will be picking your brains a lot I think! I need to go do the big shop tomorrow and stick to it, so need to sort out what I'm going to be doing. Green days are easier but I am wheat intolerant (not that bad that I don't cheat once in a while lol) but my son seems to get stomach ache after I've breastfed him if I've eaten wheat so I've had to cut it out completely. I remember when I did SW years ago I used to have a big jacket potato with cheese and beans for lunch but can't remember if there's a limit on potato? As much rice and pasta as I want is ok right? Is wheat free pasta still ok instead of normal pasta? I'd do red days because I love meat but It's just too expensive while I'm on maternity leave. Any suggestions for my shopping list tomorrow would be gratefully received!! X

Don't u just love a "big shop" my least favourite way to spend an afternoon! :) on a green day rice, pasta and potato is unlimited and u can have the wheat free stuff too as far as I know just make sure u have your 1/3 superfree (veg/fruit) with every meal. Don't forget u can have quorn products too on a green day which aren't as expensive as meat products. Hope that helps a little x

That's great thanks jo, will be having a look around the supermarket when I go then! (trying to put it off because of this horrible torrential rain we have today!).

I will be starting the diet on Monday so just need to get the food in time for that as I'll attend the one class to use my voucher for free books and then do it at home to save money. So looking forward to losing this weight! X

No probs. don't blame u the weather here is awful too :( off sick from work at the mo tho so I've only had to look at it thru the window today!

It's kinda liberating starting a diet in a weird way isn't it, I was off plan for a few weeks and now back on it I love the feeling of being back in control :)

Sounds like a good plan getting your books too x

hi sam,
just read on and see youre going to join a class on monday,i was going to say thats really the best thing to do as healthy extras went up to 30g,i'm not attending a class at the moment but my most recent book had quite a few changes.extra easy seemed to work very well for the members of my class.i dont eat meet so i always do green plan.wheat free healthy extras, they'll be loads. mm i dont like porridge but i do like toasted oats,(done in a dry pan with care as they can burn really quickly ) sprinkled on yogurt, laughing cow triangles(nice on celery).
im new to using the site too so cant help with owt technical. i'll try + find my book and look up the healthy extras ,you could go on sw website,i think they have a sample menu for a week.yeah being prepared to start and being stocked up is everything.

Thanks ladies, I really am
Looking forward to getting started and once I have my books and it all explained to me again it should be fine :) my fiancé is going to do the plan with me too so we've got eachother for support and when I was pregnant he matched my weight gain pound for pound!! So now I've lost my pregnancy weight and he's lost some but still has more to go. It doesn't help I don't think that he was made redundant in November and can't find a job for the life in him, not through lack of trying, just that it's so difficult to get one at the moment, so he went from working 12 hour shifts on his feet all day to sitting on his bum at home most of the day. He starts an unpaid work placement on Monday though so that should help to increase his activity levels :) hopefully he will get a paid job soon though. So excited to start! Going to go online and try to figure out what to put on the shopping list now :) x

How did the shopping go yesterday? X

Shopping went awful yesterday but went again with a clearer head today, bought a new underwired bra so i had a decent shape because the nursing bras are awful for holding 38H boobies up and then went to dorothy perkins and found an outfit (somehow in a size 16 when i'm usually 18-20!). I think it looks a bit plain so need to find a belt, but at least it emphasises my waist and now that i have a good bra i don't look like i just have a big bumpy belly (I still have a belly, but it doesn't look as big) because i have an hourglass figure so i need to accentuate the waist otherwiser i'm just one big blob. Thanks for checking up on me hunny ) x

Thanks hunny, I just got a few things to make some recipes that I saw on here tomorrow and then I'll go do the proper food shop on Tuesday when Ben and I can go through the books and make a healthy shopping list ) will let you know how the weigh in goes, though not looking forward to it!$ x

Thanks jo, had a tiring Monday, little man was grumpy today :-(

Had my first weigh in and am 15 stone 8 pounds, which I knew. After looking at EE tonight when I got home though, it's exactly how we've been eating for the past couple of years and I've maintained this weight (within a pound or two) for the last two years except in pregnancy, but my pregnancy weight was lost within a week of having jack. So I'm going to do green days, as I know they worked when I did the plan 3 years ago, I just need to get my head around it all again and couldn't today as I was so tired :-(

Hope you've had a good Monday hunny :) x
