Does anyone know if you can cook SW meals in these or just plain rice? And if so, is it a good purchase?

You can certainly make risotto in them. I don't have one myself, I thought they were a waste of time! Then I borrowed my mum's & I loved it. So easy to use.

I dont know if they are any good but personally I buy frozen bags of rice 3 mins in micro.

I have a rice cooker and use it 3-4 times a week. Always produces consistent and delicious rice! If I'm doing a curry I'll toss some chopped mushrooms, peas, onion, spices, etc mixed through the rice to give it flavour and texture. Yummy!
