Hello I am on beta blockers for heart rate issues and was researching if Juddd was ok to do on the packet it says not suitable for prolonged periods of fasting and I came accross this article

The Best Way to Lose Weight While on a Beta Blocker | eHow.co.uk

If the body goes too long without consuming healthy nutrients from food and drink, it goes into starvation mode. It takes only 48 hours for the body to believe that it's starving and to begin to retain fat. The reason the human body does this is for survival. If the body believes it is starving to death, it will begin to retain any fat or energy that it has to attempt to sustain itself.

the above panicked me about doing double DD fastings. because I do go over the 48hrs really if you include sleep, so will that be causing to go into starvation mode storing the food eaten on my next UP day?

Does anyone else do Juddd whilst taking betablockers? Or think the above is true?

Hi Sunnyrae,

I would be very careful if taking Heart meds and fasting at the same time. This sets of alarm bells and is so Dangerous.

DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!

I have no idea about beta blockers and fasting hun to be honest but as for the doubles I have changed my mind on them completely, when I first starting doing juddd nearly 6 mths ago now doing 2 DD stogether was def a no no as Dr Johnson said pretty much what you say above, then the BBC programme was all about 5/2 and even 3 in a row ? I began stalling about 5 weeks ago and seemed stuck on my 3 DD 4 Up day rotation, sensible head said do strict alternates but I love my weekends off I decided to try Doubles instead, I have to say I have found them easy and productive , in the last 4 weeks of doing them my weight loss has been, 2lbs, 2lbs, sts (as I had only 1 double and 4 big UPs) 1lb and looking good for a loss again this week, my body continues to shrink so I believe its fat I am losing so I am not convinced about the starvation mode kicking in as quickly as 48 hrs, but that is my take on it nothing official x

Hi fat welly i've been doing JUDDD for 6 weeks now. Can i ask why its dangerous to fast on beta blockers i cant find any info on it :s

Hi Sunnyrae,

My answer to your question is: anyone that is taking Medication for a Heart problem should not be fasting, full stop.

This is only common sense. I have also nursed for years( WITHOUT BEING TO TECHNICAL)

JUDDD isn't recommended for anyone with heart problems or on beta blockers. Check with your GP and see if he can give you the OK for your specific problem.

As for starvation mode, the science behind that has been utterly mangled over the years - by the diet industry amongst others. It comes form a very well known and documented phenomenon called the starvation response. But that would only happen if you lose so much body fat that you fall below fat-levels essential for survival - and that can be as little as 5% for both men and women.

The other aspect - metabolising muscle - always happens if you diet, it simply has to muscle is protein and amino acids (techincal name) are part of the way the body breaks down both fat and protein to use as fuel.

The starvation mode thing comes from an American study on men and diet (the Minnesota Semi Starvation Study in 1950). After months on 50% of their BMR they got down below 5% body fat and their metabolism slowed down by about 40%. But, and this is the bit that gets 'forgotten' they continued to lose weight as they kcals were still restricted.

The findings just got a bit romanticised, as it tends to. And a new food myth was born!

Thanks for all ur replies i dont have any serious heart problem just fast heart rate not serious had lots of tests and its an electrical thing rather than structural the dr is happy for me to choose how much beta blockers and want to take and even come off them all together if i wanted, which at dont right now. Seen as i've been ok so far on JUDDD im going to keep up with it :)
