Hi everyone,

Im new to this so I am not too sure what to write but I will just see how it goes. Looking for a bit of help and support and people I can rant to when having a bad day. I am 23 and female and living in Ireland. I have recently joined Slimming world and have to say I am loving it so far. Have 15.5 lbs gone in first 4 weeks.

BUTTTTT

This is when I usually start to feel proud of myself and eat as rewards. I undo all the good work and put on twice as much. I was the heaviest I have ever been when i joined last month and am really just sick of being fat. I have tried other slimming clubs, hypnosis, not eating and going to the gym all the time in the past and I just need something that I can stick to. I am an emotional eater to say the least and an example would be last Saturday. I had a few vodkas friday night, and fell off the wagon completely on Saturday. The wagon might as well have been 20ft high, i did so much damage. Still managed a half pound weight loss which im very happy with. I dont want to say too much to start off with, im just hoping there are more people out there like me who would like to help me on the long journey ahead.

Hello & Welcom BB.

I'm sure you will find a lot of people in the same boat as you. I first tried SW in 2007 when I was 22. I lost 3 stone, then gained 4 in 3 years. When I rejoined in 2010 I was 15 stone and lost 1 in a matter of weeks, then Christmas came and I put it all back on again. This time I weigh 16 stone 2. I feel that if I don't do something now I never will, plus I'm getting married in August and I bought my dress in 2010 when I was at least 2 stone lighter. The dress can be made smaller but not bigger-so if I don't get this weight off it will be a complete waste of £1000!!

Maybe the trick would be not to use food as a reward?? Might you be able to treat your self another way- buy a new dress in your new size, get your hair or your nails done, buy a new piece of jewellery to emphasise your increasingly sexy looking decollatage? I, like you, treat myself with food and I've often wonder why i was skint with nothing to show for it! It was normal for us to go out every week for a £50 meal and other than a larger waist line it would be forgotten about. I'm not doing that anymore!

Good luck! Keep us all updated. You'll get loads of support around here xx

Hi,

I too reward myself with food! I even found myself saying today 'when I've lost another half stone I'll have a doughnut!' lol what was I thinking?!

Someone on er suggested something that I wish I'd seen when I first started the diet. They'd got a pandora (or style of) bracelet and every half stone they lost they bought themselves a bead for it. Then, when they were tempted, wherever they were, they loomed at their bracelet and admired their beads! :)

By the time i saw this I already had a full bracelet and couldn't afford a new one etc. But I just love the idea!

For me, I try to reward myself with facials and getting my hair/nails done! I enjoy it.

I still enjoy meals out etc as it is how I socialise, but like today we went to wetherspoons and I knew what was syn free, or I look into syn vlaues before going so I know what I'm letting myself in for! That way I save syns or similar knowing I'll have a nce meal out! :)

Hope this helps u a little.

Also looking forward to hearing about yr amazing weight loss in 2012!!! Xx

Cai I'm off to do that Pandora thing for myself now!! Hurrah for leftover xmas money *mwuhahahahahaha*

I do really wish I'd seen it when I first started :) you'll have to post the pics of the beads etc as u get them!! X

hi girls thanks for your replys :) i like your ideas about rewarding myself in other ways might get a gift card for somewhere with clothes i couldn't dream of wearing now and top it up with money every half stone-den ill have money for a target outfit? other problem is i get disheartened very easy so even though i expected a gain yesterday and lost half a pound,if it had been a gain i give up! i also eat to cheer myself up all the time need to think of somethin else to do in that case! Jez i love how your story is so similar to mine i bet your wedding will be just the motivation you need to get to your ideal weight! i was 16 3 when i started a month ago Im now 15 1.5 and won slimmer of the month and twice slimmer of the week, only over 4 stone to go by next Christmas! any tricks for coping with hangovers without binging? and cai you have done fantastically by the looks of it Im very jealous, did it slow down at all? thanks for the messages girls :)

Mine has def slowed down, but I just have to look at my stats and remind myself it is still coming off!
I hit a wall in sept, was bk to wrk and gained in my first wk, lost it the second, then half a pound here and there...but I kept at it and all of a sudden I had a 3lb loss and it has carried on from there really. Dec was bad too actually, lost half on the 1sr, then was ill and didn't go to group, then 3.5 :) then a STS and half gain...but jan is here, I'm ready and raring to go!! Joined some challenges on here and love to see everyone loosing :) x

Also like the gift card idea. My hubby said he would give me £5 for every pound I lost to get clothes with...first week I lost 7lbs and he said 'i'll keep it safe in my bank!' lol. He did buy my a toning table tho, which I said could be instead of the money!

Its great that it is still coming off and at a good rate too even if it is a bit all over the place. Have you got much left to lose? its daunting starting out when there is such a high number facing me :( you could buy a new wardrobe if u got £5 a pound :) will have to get onto my boyfriend to buy me stuff :)

May as well write about my food today and start as i mean to go on :)

Was up late as had no work today so had 2 slices wholegrain bread (heb) toasted with lettuce, tomato and some salad cream (2syns worth i think)

Apple as a snack

Dinner was sw curry sauce (the mushy pea one) with sw chips and cheese hea (heavenly!!) and a banana for the missing superfree veg

Sitting down to a dvd now with a frozen curly wurly (6 syn) and tea with milk ( 1 syn) and sweeteners :)

I love that idea too!
I have a pandora bracelet that I got for my 21st birthday in December and you've just inspired me as to what charms to buy for it now, every stone that goes I shall get myself one. I would say every half stone, but they're between £20-50 each and i'm living on student pennies :p

Love the gift card thing though, might have to put a fiver on one for each half stone I lose to buy some holiday clothes closer to July!

Thanks for all the fab ideas wonderful people, so much inspiration to keep going!

I've bought a cheapy version of the bracelet and one for my bessie mate. You can cheapish beads off ebay for buttons. I've told all my bridesmaids (all on a diet!) that i'll make them all one for the wedding day to represent their weight loss :)

To be fair, they will prob work out cheaper than getting them all the traditional gift of a bunch of flowers! You can buy job lots of the snake bracelets for a fiver, then buy 20 beads for £4! I am on a bit of a budget too!
