Another Newbie!

Hey everyone

I have never done Slim Fast before and don't know anyone who has done it either but I thought it would be worth a shot. I discovered this website completely by accident and have spent about 4 hours reading posts! Am now really buoyed up and have just placed an order for lots of shakes (due Monday). New week, new start.

Can anyone tell me the difference (if any) between the powder and the ready made shakes? Is it just a matter of convenience and cost? Please don't think I'm daft but is it easy to mix the powder? I have ordered the bottles rather than powder because I can imagine mixing a shake and it being lumpy therefore giving up before I've really started.

Can anyone recommend any of the snacks? I love fruit but it doesn't quite fulfil that need for good old chocolate.

I'm thinking of having my shakes for breakfast and tea with a proper meal at lunch. I tend to go to the gym most mornings and am so hungry after I just can't imagine a shake hitting the spot! Does anyone else have their meal at lunch?

Sorry to ask so many questions. Determined to get the weight off for good!!!

Thanks

Hey, I don't feel 100% qualified but can go with;

I use tescos own shakes, called ultra slim

I havea normal breakfast but with skimmed milk. A shake in the afternoon. About a 700 cal dinner and a shake at night.

I'm guessing that would work with SF too, if the shake cal content is the same.

I found the site by accident too at first and it is really helpful I find.

Hopefully the diet works for you, this is the best one I have tried - for me - yet :)

That makes me feel positive. I'm glad its working for you. Think it will be trial and error to see when the hunger pangs hit! Will have to investigate Ultra Slim and do a comparison. Sure I spend half my time in the supermarket comparing the backs of packets hehe.

Current diet is breakfast; weetibix with skimmed milk, lunch; tuna salad and fruit/yogurt, tea; chicken and veg or jacket potato and salad. Snack on fruit or carrots. I only drink water yet my weight is still going up :( Plus i do 1-3 hours exercise a day. Fingers crossed for slimfast!!!! Slim slow would do as long as the weight was coming off rather than on!

Dunno if anyone shops at Tescos but the 6 pack of shakes are reduced from £6.49 to £4.00 for the chocolate, strawberry and vanilla until 22nd March. Any use to anyone?

Welcome to our family. I use slimfast and I use the ready shakes. This is not only for convenience but I find they taste better too! Slimfast is certainly working for me.

Good luck

Think I will see how well I get on with the bottles. Just can't wait for them to arrive now! Going to clear out the cupboard of any "naughty" food today to remove the temptation.

Good luck with your March Challenge ff. Weigh in tomorrow?? Has it been a good week?

Liz

Hi, I use the powder shakes and yes very easy to make up. Slimfast is one of the most cost effective and easy diets i've done.
Good luck x

Good morrning BL

Weigh in this morning. Have lost another 2lb - am quite pleased with that. I know what you mean about "naughty food". Unfortunatley I have two children so I always have this in the house!

Take care

FF

Hi BL hope day 1 of slimfast is working well for you! I use a mixture of the powder shakes (for when Im at home) the meal bars and ready made shakes as they are easy to take with when heading out. I try to have my main meal at lunch as I usually go to the gym at lunch

I love the sour cream and chive pretzel snacks (tesco light choices do a cheaper one thats less calories and just as nice) also Ive found the ryvita bites are a good snack and also aroun 100cal

Tried the slimfast cereal this morning is expensive and not that nice

Hope this helps!

ooh and for the chocolate cravings the peanut chocolate slimfast snack is yummo!

What can I say about Day1?:cry:Not going too well so far. Woken up with really swollen neck glands and hurts to swallow. By the time my friendly Tescos man arrived I had drunk a litre of water and was so bloated it took me over half an hour to drink my shake. Vanilla flavour and VERY sweet I found. Will persevere though.

By lunchtime I had been sick and had a migraine so carted myself back to bed to lie in a darkened room. Head has just started to ease off so I'm up but am not hungry in the slightest and am dreading forcing myself to eat something healthy. Anyways I'm going to stop feeling sorry for myself now :)

Ugg - I think I will get some powder when my shakes have run out to see what they are like. Can't believe how cheap this diet actually is. Fresh fruit and veg seems to be so expensive. Think I have about 8 weeks of shakes for about £45 :)

FF - 2lbs is great. Definately on target for your March Challenge. Well done :D No kids so no excuse for naughty food in my house though I do still have a massive box of sweets left from Halloween so have given to my neighbours kids!
Sattsy - have gotten some choc caramel bars and cheddar snacks but not tried either yet. Think I'll avoid the cereal but try your other recommendations. Sound yum yum!

Thanks everyone

Good morning BL

Sorry to hear about your migrane. I suffer with them so know how you feel.

I had a pretty good day yesterday but as you all know I am a serial scale hopper (can't help it I'm afraid). I don't lose anything all week - just stay the same. I seem to lose my 2lbs over the weekend ???

Have a good day everyone.

Thanks

FF

Still got headache but nowhere near as bad yesterday. Strawberry shake yum, chocolate shake double yum! Not felt the slightest bit hungry or deprived. My friend had a big bowl of creamy soup with stacks of bread and a big slice of cheesecake while I had my shake. Genuinely wasn't bothered which surprised me and her. Shes even thinking of joining me on SlimFast.

Am loving this diet!!! Just hoping I don't get evening munchies.

HELP! I am going to a big family meal on Sunday to an all-you-can-eat curry buffet:cry:Dreading it already. Planning on filling up with salad and avoiding the carbs but can anyone suggest the best option curry wise?

I will obviously avoid the creamy curries but am going to have to eat something other than salad. Stressed just at the thought especially since its the night before my first weigh in!!!

Any advice greatly appreciated!
BL x

When I used to be on weight watchers they suggested dry curries such as chicken tikka or chicken sashlick along with plain boiled rice. Definitely no naan bread as it has a very high fat content. A couple of poppadums wont hurt either.

Hope you have a great meal but don't worry too much about it as long as you have been on track all week and stay on track afterwards I'm sure it won't matter too much. I think if you miss out on meals and avoid socialising just because you are on a diet you are just going to make life miserable for yourself and won't keep to your diet. Just try and take the sensible option.

I appreciate it is not good timing as you have only just started but the same will be happening to me Sunday too. I am going for a meal at a carvery so not much choice but I will work my diet around it.

Will avoid any sauce where possible I think and try to make it a spicy chicken salad. I come from a family of big people with big appetites and think I'm going to be under pressure to keep going up for food. If I carry on with the amount of water i'm drinking i'll be water-logged anyway and won't have the capacity for much food hehe!
