antidepressants and cambridge

hi I am on lexapro (an ssri) for anxiety...im on 10mg. Im just wondering if anyone else is on one as i need reassurance that it wont effect my rate of weight loss. there seems to be alot of forums online saying that lexapro makes it virtually impossible to lose weight no matter how hard you try!! this is really worrying me ...any advice??

I've taken a low dose of Citalopram since 2009. It's not stopped my weight loss at all. :)

i'm on 60mg of fluoxetine and it hasn't stopped my weightloss...

i am in no way condoning the following but i am pretty proud of myself: since i started cd i have hardly taken them cos i haven't felt like i needed them :)

I don't think the antidepressant will affect your weight loss but ask your consultant about it. Sometimes people on antidepressants gain weight because they feel better and a bit more cheerful and positive, which often means their appetite comes back (if they'd lost it). They also tend to socialise more than when they were deep in the depression, etc., so there is more food and even drink in their lives!

I am on Citalopram, too. Not noticed any losses slowing due to this - only to eating too many carbs! Lexapro is also escitalopram so I would guess that they ought to behave similarly in the body.

Good luck!

thanks so much for your replies girls. i feel so much better now. glad to hear that the meds are not effecting your weight loss. cant wait to be slimmer and happier !!

I started Cambridge in despair after packing on twenty pounds on an antidepressant. I lost all the weight I'd gained on it really quickly and am still losing now.
