Any serious readers here?

For non-fiction I particularly like:
Stiff - Mary Roach (if you're OK with reading descriptions of what happens to corpses)
Pure Effect - Derren Brown (you'll have to go to a specialist magic supplier to get this - it's not on a wider release)
As used on the famous Nelson Mandela - Mark Thomas

Most of my current non-fiction is Japanese language study, so perhaps not of use to you :)

YAWN! 'Any serious readers'? I'm a big fan of the 'Where's Wally' books. They're just so fascinating! I'm looking forward to the new series, 'Where's the literature snob?'.

Dunno. He appears to have toned it all down.

I do read a fair bit, and I suppose my tastes gravitate towards high brow, but really that's because I'm quite a fast reader and the plots of so-called airport novels whiz past so quickly there's nothing lasting in my head whereas a 'difficult' read like W G Sebald or A S Byatt will slow me down and make me think, Murakami Haruki just leaves me gasping at his originality. Non-fiction also intrigues me more as I get older, books on art and history mostly, but Bill Bryson's writing on science has really helped me understand more of the world than I did, despite me failing GCSE Physics spectacularly!

I love to read,I'll pretty much read anything. But I get bored quickly so I usually have about 3/4 books on the go at once!
My dad won a competition a few years back and the prize was 100 books from Waterstones...he gave the prize to me!

I am definitely a serious reader as most of my friends would sigh heavily whilst testifying to. I can't go anywhere without checking out books. I currently have 40ish in my waiting-to-be-read pile but am likely to add to that over the next couple of weeks even though I tell myself I shouldn't until I have read the pile!! Love most stuff, except hardcore sci-fi. Am reading Bernard Cornwell at the moment but am waiting for a book on the history of tattoos to arrive so I can start on that. Probably get through 2-4 books a week on average:D

I used to read alot (2 to 3 books a week) until I did a law degree which destroyed the joy of reading for me. Although I finished that 6 years ago, it has taken this long to build back up to one or two a month. I remember I used to have a mild panic if I didn't have anything to read!

That said, I did read the four Twilight books just before Christmas and couldn't put them down (I know they are unsophisticated teenage books (I'm a 36 year old mother of 3), but I really enjoyed them).

My next book will be Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks which I have wanted to read since the BBC 100 best books programme...

I got through a few books today. 1 about antimatter. 1 autobiography and one about boobs....

I know I shouldn't ask but..the book about boobs?? :)

Got books for Christmas so was very happy. :D

No its the illustrated history of breasts. There some vintage porn in there mixed with some artsy fartsy photos.

i love reading will read just about anything get throught 3 books a week or so

I love reading, I think i've re-read everything i've got about 5 times =D
I wish i had more time for reading but with my college and stuff i only get to do it at work lol!
I've just re-read The Collector by John Fowles for about the 16th time and now im halfway through Felidae-on the roads by Akif Pirincci

I found Felidae on the Road not quite as good as the original Felidae :(

wow, im surprised to find someone else who's even heard of it - let alone read it!
I think the first one is a little better than the second, but i've re read the first more than the second so thought i'd re-do on the road again =D
Apparently theirs 5 books all together but they havent been translated into english.
I might have to learn German =(

I'm not sure I'd fall into the 'serious' category. I only tend to read at work now or on trains when I am travelling. I don't often have time to read at home but I get through quite a few books

I'd got it into my head that the originals were in Polish. Not sure why.

Too busy learning Japanese, anyway. こんにちは!
