Hi all,
Making a stew in the slow cooker tomorrow for tomorrow's tea.
On extra easy so it's braising steak, potatoes, onions, carrots, green beans, peas. butterbeans, leeks.

I would normally use a bovril and water but would like a thicker gravy. Anyone got syn free or low syn suggestions?

Apparently stir in some smash? never tried it myself though!

I tend to dust my steak in a little plain flower, it tends to thincken up the gravey :)

We boil up some onions and then drain and blend them ... the boiling process takes away the onion 'tang' and once its added to the 'gravy' it makes it lovely and thick.

Yes smash works great for thickening sauces but if it's for the stew just add some potatoes and that shourld do the trick.

I would let your potaotes break down to mush the stew, or lentils or barley before you serve works just as well!
