Anyone from Greece?

Hi I would imagine the only thing you might have a problem with would be branded foods for your healthy extras. That very much depends on where you live and how easy supermarket access is? But other than all the fresh fruit, veg, meat and fish is perfect for slimming world, as well as rice, pasta, lentils etc. Yummy love Greek food! Are you British or Greek? My sister in law lives on Paxos :)

Hi I am in Corfu too, I have been on sw extra easy plan since January, I love it especially as I can now combine meats and fish with potatoes and pasta and rice. Its worth giving up some of the healthy extras. I have found a lot of support through groups on facebook, but nice to know I'm not the only one in Corfu to be on this diet :D

I forgot to mention there aren't any slimming world groups here as far as I know, let me know if there is I am in North West Corfu

No, I've not heard of any groups over here either, maybe put a post on the Corfu grapevine and see if somebody would start one up?

Have you found frylight over here?

No fry- light here, I just wipe a little olive oil over the pan but am going to bring some fry-light back with me from a visit back to the uk this week. Will be so happy to see what a choice there is now for me to try when I go back. I have the slimming world curry book its great so have lovely meals using that, I am a curry freak!! Its defo the best diet I have been on and am so confident its a life change for me, I hate not being comfortable on our lovely beaches here.

Am a little scared today, I go back to England for a month tomorrow, I know that being able to get everything I need will be a huge bonus for my diet but I am worried about my self control and not being able to weigh myself on my own scales. My husband has been weighing me every Friday, so yes he has known the honest and awful truth right from the start but I can't cheat then can I!!
I am worried about socialising with my friends and family, but at least I know that if I do slip, then its not a big deal and I can get back on track again. At least I have been not having any syns during the week and saving them for enjoying myself at weekends. Have to get weighed a day early this week so wish me luck!!

Lucky thing, I'm jealous your getting to go back.
I know what you mean about putting weight on, i hit the supermarkets running when i go back for visits :D

Have a lovely time :character00255: do lots of shopping for me :)

hi!! I am Greek and just started SW online! I am so optimistic! I wish they would have meetings here as well as I think the would be lots of help! I have some questions but I think I 'll get my answers as I progress... for example, can you use your syns another day? I think you mentioned that! Is there a limit if you do so? (for example 30 syns max)
:) Good luck to all!!

Hi and welcome to SW!

The question as to whether you can save syns some days to use on other days is an interesting one.

A few years ago the answer would have been no - you use your 5 to 15 syns that day or you lose them. SW advocated using flexi syns instead for special occasions. If you have a big event coming up you work out how many syns you will need to get through it whether that is 40, 50, 60 or whatever. On the day you count your syns as normal but when you reach your imposed limit you stop synning. Next day you get back on plan without trying to cut back on your syns. You accept that you might not lose that week but don't need to feel guilty because you still stayed on plan. This was was special occasions and not to be done on a regular basis though.

Then more recently SW changed their mind and said that you could save your syns from one day to the next as long as you didn't feel deprived on the days when you weren't having many syns. A lot of people do this and it works well for them. It might not work so well though if you have a big blowout at the weekend and your weigh in day is Monday.

However, in the recent redesign of the SW website they appear to have backtracked a bit and now say that they don't recommend saving syns (presumably because for some people it can lead to binging) and that you should use flexi-syns.

So, the answer to your question is that there is no definitive answer. They don't recommend it but many people do it successfully. Personally I think that if it helps you stay on plan when otherwise you might fall off then fair enough. All you can do is try it and see if it works for you, but I would always recommend you still have at least 5 syns a day.

Good luck!

Thank so much Circes for your answer. I get it...
You are maintaining a great loss, congratulations!!
I hope I can do well on the online program as we don't have meetings here!!

Cheers!

Hi Athens I have just got back from a months stay in uk with my family, I felt very out of control staying with them as far as food was concerned and had a few temptations thrown in my path. I was really shocked and surprised that I actually lost half a stone while I have been away!! It has really spurred me on and I am loving the exta easy plan as I got quite confused with red and green days.
I will keep looking in from time to time on our little discussion group for overseas slimmers and perhaps we can spur each other on.

Hi

Im coming to corfu on my holidays this year :) a bit worried about sticking to plan with all the yummy greek food!!
xx

There is plenty of fresh meat, fish, eggs, vegetables and fruit available, eating out in the tavernas, well there is a lot of grilled meats and fish, kebabs or souvlaki would be fine, there are stuffed peppers they are stuffed with feta cheese so quite a good choice. Baked feta is delicious, a greek salad is ok, you usually put the dressings on yourself.
You dont really get many cream based sauces they are usually tomato based. But at the end of the day you are on holiday, and its very easy to go straight back to the slimming world diets compared with diets which involve just having shakes etc, so just enjoy yourself!!

My Aunty and Uncle lived over in Corfu for about 16 years, and my 2 cousins for most of that too ( the kids comming back for the winter etc )..
They used to have a shop in Gouvia, then ran a bar in Kommeno, and for the last 5 or 6 years were doing karaoke in Sidari..

both my cousins came back and got married and stayed over here, but they have thier own house over there ( it's in the kids names for some greek legal loophole reason.. ).

My Aunty and Uncle came back a few years ago but still go over for a couple of months a year to see friends and sort the house out etc..
They are / were on SW too so I could ask them to take some frylite over the next time they go... :)
