I recently wrote to Asda to ask them how the nutrition and weight of their Pitta Bread had changed trying to find a reason why SW have pulled them from the plan. This is the reply.

Thanks for asking about our pitta breads.

I'm sorry they are no longer allowed as part of you plan. I can appreciate how disappointing this must be. Our Pittas haven't changed recently and hold the same nutritional values as always. I'd suggest that the change has come at Slimming World.

So Why did SW remove them - there is no change to them so what sense does it make when we have been eating them for so long?
 
If the ingredients haven't changed in the pittas I'd write to SW and forward them the email from Asda too.
I'd be interested to know why they removed them as I really liked the Asda ones xxx

theyve taken all pitta breads off HEB havent they?

The co-op ones are actually quite delicious. It makes it tougher for people who try to be 100% within the diet. I presume they have changed it because they felt that a wholemeal pitta bread isnt filling enough to be a healthy extra.

The WW ones are still on the heb list :)
 
We checked the wrappers of the Pittas before and after SW made the decision to no longer have them in the plan and there was no difference - that is why I wrote to Asda to make sure we had this correct.

Looking on Asda website their own brand (i.e the ones we could eat) are 12 for £1.00

WW ones are 95p for 6 and are white (are these the ones SW recommend)?
 
As gazter said, SW have probably came to the conclusion that they're not satisfying enough or something. I really liked the asda ones too. Not tried the ww ones but they are allowed, 1 wholemeal pitta as hexb
 
Looks like Asda only sell the white WW ones then.

I will be sticking to the Asda ones anyway - how different can a wholemeal pitta bread be.:) Lost weight before they changed them.
 
could it be that slimming world are paid a premium for endorsing certain products?
 
I'm more full of a pitta than a hifi bar as a B.

I would forward it to sw and ask for a reason!
 
This is a bug bear of mine too. I went out of my way to get the co-op ones as when I started they were the only ones on the list, stocked up on loads and then they got removed! The ingredients haven't changed unless the baking process did maybe? As for them not being filling enough, the WW seem smaller to me.
So disappointing when SW change things without an explanation, part of me thinks they do have some sort of financial endorsement x
 
I dont think SW ever claimed the ingredients had changed? Not HQ anyway. I was always surprised they were on the list in the first place as at 7 syns they are higher in syns than is normal for a HEB. It may just be something to do with that as the WW one is lower in calories. I did also wonder at the time whether it was to do with people "abusing" them by maing pasties out of them but as the WW one is now on the list that cannot be the case. Its a bit funny though to suggest there is some sort of financial backhand going on when WW breads were taken off the list at the same time as the pitta bread lol
 
I haven't eaten any of them since joining SW.

I've seen a few people have said that asda, co-op, etc, pitta's are bigger than WW. Maybe as patchwork said the others are higher syns than WW and SW have realised that 1-2 higher syn is enough to effect the plan.
 
Asda still same calories as HEX b of Wholemeal Bread or 4 Ryvita.

(Weight Watchers are smaller at 106 cal )

But we don't count calories :)

Usually a HEB choice would work out at around 5-6 syns I think this may be why they have taken them off as a HEB as they are 7 syns each meaning this is a little too high to be classed as a HEB choice. I wonder if we could just count them as a HEB choice + 1 syn like we used to do with the chocolate weetabix. We were told by SW they could be used as a HEB choice but we had to add a couple of syns too. xxx

Isnt healthy extras to do with calcium and fibre intake... hence why you have to have the full amount or it doesn't count. .. maybe sw decided the fibre in them wasn't enough? How does it compare to say 4 ryvita or the other pittas fibre wise?
 
I think they monitor these things all the time (don't ask me how) and if it seems like it is having an impact then they do make changes on that basis, like taking the oatso simple sachets off the list at the new year, that wasn't a change in recipe either. But yes I agree it would be good to know the reasons from the horse's mouth rather than speculating :)
