Breastfeeding and Slimming World

Hi cas3...

The 1st pump I got was this one...
Nuby Natural Touch Rhythm Electric Breast Pump - Boots I got it on my way home from the hospital and then burst into tears when I tried it as it had no suction (although when I read up folks with sensitive boobs seemed to get on with it fine - I obviously have badoobies with the sensitivity of a brick :p) - so we took it back to boots and now I have this one...
Philips AVENT Single Electronic Breast Pump - Boots -(ooh and its in the sale now )which I love -although it comes with a rubber shield that is supposed to stimulate the whole nipple area -but again its far too gentle for me.. I have tried it but Im much quicker with the hard plastic shell :giggle:. It does make a bit of noise but nothing major-in fact Charlie now starts making smacking noise with his lips when he hears it as he knows it means badooby milk,
Well done on the loss , Im 17lbs down since having Charlie too - hopefuly it will keep on coming down -especially if Charlie keeps on eating as he is... he is getting to be a serious little guzzle guts -Im sure Hollie will soon start gaining weight -Charlie lost 9oz the 1st week and then gained 13.5oz the 2nd week so he is slightly over his birth weight -and I have found that he has no problem switching from boob to bottle either -even though it seemed to be what the midwives were most concerned about , I was just concerned with getting my milk down him one way or another,,,

I have a medela swing it's fab, they r pretty expensive but I bought mine of eBay for £50

Can't believe that he is 9 weeks now, another 4lbs lost last night!!!!

Hi mommas.......cant believe how well your all doing expressing, it took my a while to get to grips with it and also finding a min to sterilise the stuff lol! Yep finding time to do it is a pain so only been doing it once a day if that! Thanks for the advice. capricorn. Ive been doing the breast compressions and its working. It will be better once im at work n can just concentrate on that without watching Dan. Speaking of which found out yesterday that he had got a tongue tie. I now have to decide whether to get it cut thats if they'll do it! Saw a bf specialist n ive discovered my latch isnt right after 19 wk pmsl! Me n Dan have adapted due to his tongue so had no problems hence reason they may not sort it.ive to practise latching properly which is difficult when your use to doing it a certain way! Dunno if this practising caused him to get a load of wind last night. Infacol didnt really help , tried massage n he farted a lot lol but not enough for him to sleep in his cot. Low n behold as soon as he got in bed with me he went to sleep, ikkle monkey!
I have the avent pump and its fine, also dont get breast bags from boots...so expensive! Home bargains do them for about 1.99
As for bf in public,it is daunting at first,.i bought a bf cover off ebay and managed with that till i got use to wapping them out discretly of course lol and i have big boobys! Ive never bothered buying bf tops either. I always wear a vest top under my normal tops just so no one has to look at my flab!!! I always feel really proud bf in public x

Doing ok, only lost 1/2 lb this week but that's 2 stone 6 lbs so far.

How u doing with oh back at work so far? I cried when dh had to go back to work x

A loss is a loss, it is is better then a gain and at least it is all going in the right direction. My OH is my career so lucky he is a round for support, dreading going back to uni in October, much perfer to spend time with my boy!!!

Well done on your losses! I'm pretty pleased - am 7.5lbs down in 3 weeks.

I remember when my hubby went back to work after just over 3 weeks off, I was absolutely dreading it... But then it's ok and you just kinda fit into your new routine really. Now we do so much more during the week than when daddy's home on weekends!

I was glad when my hubs went back after a mth off cos i could get into a bit of a routine! Lol

Seriously annoyed atm over work. Im due back on 30th April. Sent them a letter with return date and intention to be a nursing mum as well as asking to do very slightly different hrs to fit in with hubs shifts so we dont need child care. They have been agreed in principle but needed a meeting to clarify everything, asked for this 5 wk ago but nope still no meeting even though ive rang numerous times to arrange one. I havent heard when my risk assessment is either n im sure i cant start work without it. Ive got union onto it. Civil service is an absolute nightmare!!! Rant over!

Lost the plot over my weight too probably cos im stressed about work, its gonna be bad enough leaving my bubs as well as wondering if im gonna be able to express on top of having to retrain as ive been off work 9 mth! Meh pass me the chocolate :-(

Aw, Jojo I don't know what to say but sorry to hear your going through some crap - I hope it gets all sorted for you.
Hubby taken Charles out swimming, had him most of the day so nice to have some 'me' time. Had HV over about baby led weaning, help so much as got given info wrong at the weaning group. Stopped going weaning group as felt left out and everyone knew each other as they all go to a different baby group to me. But to be honest I didn't find it productive and now feel so much calmer now I know what I am doing. It is so complicated, grrrr!!! At six months you can give babies blue top full fat milk my HV says, I know most breast fed but just thought I would mention as I was unaware of this and saves a few pennies. Charles be having a breakfast and dinner until 8 months then introduce a thrid meal. My weaning group told me to give him finger food whenever but now been told he needs a routine and that most stuff needs pureeing as he has no teeth so he can't digest it propley so therefore does not take much in and just makes a mess.

Bunny....yep its hard n complicated! Im only just starting so far hes had a taste of banana n apple n baby porridge....its hard to know how much to give etc. I dont like clicky groups n its a shame u didnt get much out of the weaning group. Our weaning was a one off talk which just goes through basics really. I thought cows milk could be given from 1yo? Oh i dont know you get told something different depending on who u talk too lol. Would save u a fortune! Id like to stay away from jars though if i can also cant believe how bad rusks are eeekkkk!

Ooh I thought cows work was fine from 6 months only in food and cooking. Has to be breast milk or formula as drinks until 1 year.

I started Bella on purées but now she's enjoying lumpier foods and finger foods - so I'm doing a bit of a combo.

Sorry your group was cliquy bunny, that would put me off too. Glad your HV gave you some good advice,

Jojo - sorry about all the ***** you're going through at work, hope they sort it out soon.
I'm currently looking for a job, but it's so hard at the mo, there's nothing around. And we'd have to pay for childcare too so it would have to be worth it. My redundancy comes through end of next month so should make it a bit easier. Have worked out we can survive for 2 years on my redundancy as long as we use it solely as a salary. But I'd much rather have a job and use the money for something worthwhile

Yes you are right Jojo, sorry I was not clearn, meant babies can
have cow milk in food such as mash and porridge at the age of six months but when they reach a year old then they can have cow milk, has to be full fat though.

Charles has tried shellfish, curry and chilli - oops before knowing not allowed plus nuts, thankfully no reaction. He loves spices and garlic very much so. I mainly give Charles what we have but before yesterday all I gave Charles wast hard food but he could not eat it proberly because of his teeth so now know I know I can puree his food lumpy texture he can get the nutrients from his food and have more. The reason being was told by the weaning group if I give Charles puree food that he would not eat hard food at a later date and due to me being autisitic and taking everything literal I took that as gospel. But glad my mother instincts kicked in and knew there was something wrong so seeked different information from my HV which I am thankful I did as he would of missed out on iron and other stuff. Your also meant to give them a bit of meat everyday that is to help with their iron levels and they are only allowed 1g of salt whereas adults are allowed 6gs a day, learnt all these yesterday.

Hi all
Bunny hope weaning is going ok. Annabel Karmel has some video clips on her website n recipes if you get stuck.
Sarah, must be a nightmare job hunting in this current climate, Might not be worth going back full time since childcare is horrendously expensive! Or going back at all depending on what money ur entitled to?
Speaking of work....poo has hit fan over the way they have treated me n another girl due back as nursing mothers! Should have gone back yesterday then was told fri for a meeting now its next mon! No idea if my risk assessment is in process of being sorted, like to think so since union involved! Hey ho more time off with my gorgeous son so bonus!!! Also got my 4.5 st award yay
Im off to demolish a huge bowl of sw rice pudding instead of a massive bar of chocolate i really want!

Aw, Jojo your doing amazingly well, real inspirtation especially the crap with work, I don't how you have stayed so strong foodwise, I would have crumbled instantly :) Thanks for the advice on the videos - shall check out. Slowly getting to grips, been very stressful for me personal as I have difficulties but getting there and Charles is still alive and happy so that is a bonus, lol x

Good evening all

Hope all the mums and ickle ones are well.

Well, charlie had his 4 week visit from the health visitor on Friday and he has gained 1lb 12oz in 2 weeks ... so is now 8lbs 8oz... I expected he would have gained as he is a little oinky pants -but I didn't expect THAT much :D. He has jumped from an average of about 90ml a feed to 140ml-ish ... Im not sure how Im keeping up with him but Im managing SO FAR.
He has now moved into a new cot bed as he is like his mummy and sleeps like a star fish :p, so his carry cot just wouldn't do, he had his first night in there last night and he slept like a dream -he went down at 10:30pm, woke at 3am for a feed and clean nappy (hubby does that whilst I express more milk off :0chacha:and then back to sleep until 6:30am, I came downstairs to feed him and he slept on the sofa until 9:30am . I have to say that the cot bed we got him is HUGE -its as long as our bed is wide -well I picked it and my brother insisted on buying it for him...bless his socks, it was from kiddicare and with a sprung mattress came in at £116 :D. We have also put him onto the Dr.Browns bottles as he kept bringing up the watery part of my milk and the GP reckoned its because he is a greed pants (like I don't know that :p) -so he suggested these bottles to stop him swallowing so much air and they have made quite a difference, although the GP also said that it sounds like he is a baby that sends his air down rather so rather than burping he trumps a lot :giggle: -I swear you should hear him... in fact Im surprised you can't!!! he is like a full grown man :8855:
Charlie has to go for another billirubins test on Friday as he still has an itty bit of jaundice left, not that the GP is worried as such as he is so alert, gaining weight and peeing n pooping like a trooper ;) -but they just want to make sure they don't miss anything,
On the me front -well I joined SW last night -I lost my 11st by doing it online and then doing it myself but I have decided that as they have now opened a class right on the end of our street I will go there and get the rest off ASAP -and as Im a scale hopper I haven't replaced the batteries in my own scales *gulp* :D

JOJO -well done on your 4.5st award
Right enough waffle from me -hope everyone has a good night......

Hi
Aww thanks Bunny. You're doing fantastic despite any difficulties you may have, be a very proud mummy!
Capricorn, sounds like you're also doing fantastic! My son is a trumper too lol! I had Dan in his cot at 4 wk too, moses baskets are no good for a proper sleep! Saying that hes still pleasing himself how much sleep he has at night though it is getting better and if i give him his first morning feed in bed i can grab some more lol!
Got him a door bouncer off ebay today had loads of fun with it.....

Charles when sleeping at first hate, hate, hated sleeping in moses basket or cot, he is a very affectionate baby and adores cuddles. I literal use to have to cuddle him for a hr each time which is so much fun every 3hrs *only getting 2 hr sleeps if that. Once he got older and put weight on though he slept more in his bed and then at 3 months slept through in his bed. Then his teething affecting him so back to square one but now really lucky as after a stint with a cold he is back to sleeping through for 12 hrs. Would be brillent if I wasen't an insominc, pmsl!!!! Charles used to sleep star fish but once he started to turn on his belly all he sleeps is on his belly and crawls to the top of his cot and sleeps awakardly, lol. Have to tie him down with his gro bag to be safe and we have bumpers around the cot now due to the way he sleeps. Used to cry blue murder if he went on his tummy and now won't get of his tummy he is constantly flipping over which is fun changing him. So watch out as they can change the moment they can roll over on to their tums!!!

P.s. Recent piccies of Charles above :D

Quick question please (not for me, mine are a bit old to start BF them lol)

How many additional HE's do you get when following EE please x And do they HAVE to be A's/B's xx
