Buying My First Car! Any Tips..

Hiya!

Well I have my driving test in a few weeks but until then ive been practicing in my boyfriends car. I think im doing ok!

My mum is helping me with buying a car, and I have decided as im almost 23 so a bit late in driving, I want a convertable.

My mum has ok'ed this and we have been looking on auto trader at renult meganes 1.6 or at fiant punto convertables 1.2 but I have no idea what im looking for? I dont want to get conned?

I have a good budget and I know insurence is going to be a nightmare

Any ideas of what I could do and any places to look would be great! Thank you xx

Get on auto trader hun! Ive just bought a new VW beetle convertable from a local garage i found on auto trader. Im quite lucky as my dad works in the motor trade business and knows what to look out for. Make sure if you go looking at any cars to take a dad, brother, boyfriend or male relative with you as some dealers can be a bit funny towards women. I would deffo recomend buying it through a garage rather than a private seller as you know what you are dealing with and what you are getting for your money as they make sure they are in correct working order and MOT'd etc...

Insurace can be a nightmare hun so do your homework first if you find a car you like try and get an insurace quote on it first and see if its affordable. My old car was a 09 plate vw polo and the cheapest quote i got was £1200 with tesco insurace. Now i'm lucky as i work for my dad at his motor garage i can be on the motor trade insurace so it doesnt cost me anything to insure my car through it.

Good luck hun, make sure you let me know how you get on. Convertables are brill i would never go back now after buying mine. I love love love it!

also are you sure you can get fiat punto convertable's? I've never seen any. I know fiat 500 do a kind of convertable but the roof doesnt come all the way down. Mini do a convertable (if its in your price range) and like you said meganes. I think peugeot do one too but its a hard top one.

Yup the one I have been looking at is a 1998 FIAT PUNTO ELX 16V 2dr Cabriolet Now I had to copy and paste that off Auto trader lmao Because I had no idea what the name was. It's lush and Turquoise.
Yeah I have heard that Tesco is good for insurance so I shall have a look there. What litre is your car?
I have been looking at auto trader which is quite good, myself and my mum don't have a clue as she doesn't drive & my boyfriend has no idea! lol. I'm just terrified I’m going to get ripped off! lo
Yeah I’m in love with convertibles as well! I've wanted one since I was little and got my Barbie convertible! It was white with pink flowers on it! Lol. Unfortunately I can't seem to find a human size car like that lol!
For ages I was convinced I was going to buy a ford KA, I'm just lucky I have a better budget because I have waited so long to learn to drive.

I have to say though I've bought all my cars from dealers and I've never ever taken a man with me. I've always done the haggling myself and have always got a good deal. Who needs men

Love to the VDUB BEETLES! haha mine is my likkle baby! only had it 4 weeks and i love it. Always have the roof down even if its cloudy just stick the heaters on full wack haha! What colour is urs hun? Have u got a little flower?

Hi hun, if you type my car inspections into google it you will be directed to a site, basically it give you a price for a qualified mechanic to look at the car you want to buy and should flag up any problems / faults. I also love convertibles, just got a new saab and its lush ;o)...xx

Yeah keep us informed Haha! I had a vw beetle convertable for my barbies and from then on i always wanted one haha. I passed my test 2 years ago and got an old vw polo, then few months on i got a brand new polo using the scrappage scheme and then traded that a month ago for my beloved beetle 1.6 My dads a german car specialist hence all the vdubs ive had lol.

Just make sure you shop around for a good one and dont get the first one you see. I went to see 5 beetles before finding the one i eventually bought and im glad i waited as i got a better car for just a few hundred more and its worth investing i think.

Give tesco a try for insurance but you will have to go direct as it will not come up on any compare websites. Also ive heard that swift cover is cheap along with zurich.

The black one was my first one and the rather snazzy pink daisy covered a ruddy big scratch lol

for buying your first car Id definitely go to a dealer, you know what youre getting that way and most come with some kind of warranty

Go with a definite budget in mind but keep that close to your chest when youre negotiating and always push for little things, proper branded mats, petrol etc... If youre not getting what you want, say youll think about it but want to go to A.N Other garage nearby youll be amazed what you can get. Theres no way they want to see you walk out the door to another garage.
