City Socialising... Anyone else joined them?

Hi Ive just joined a social group called City Socialising. They have a number of groups all over England now and are aiming to have one in most cities. Its aimed at anyone who would like to broaden their circle of friends. Its not a dating group just a bunch of males and females who meet to go to cinema, meals out etc.

For me its because Im fairly new to the area and finding it hard to meet new people.

Ive just joined up and going on my first "New members" meet this evening. I wont lie, Im really nervous but know I have to do it as think it will be good for me to get out there and get socialising a bit more. I find it really hard to meet new groups of people so planning on getting there a bit early so hopefully wont be as daunting.

I was wondering if anyone on here had any experience with City Socialising?

They charge around £10 per month to be a member which I think is very expensive especially the way things are at the moment: I live near Southampton and there doesnt seem to be any free groups for some unknown reason.

What about going to something like a line dancing venue - you don't have to dance but at least you will meet people. Entrance fee is likely to be a lot less.

Im going to Zumba next week which is about £4.50 p.w.

This city socialising seems ok and there were about 18 people there last night and seem very nice. I just cant help thinking that £12.99 a month or £29.99 if I pay for 3 months is a bit steep. They do a lot, meals out, walks, cinema, nights out, days out and loads of other stuff. I just feel it should be less expensive especially the way the recession has hit so many of us.

Its a shame they are in a way exploiting people who have found themselves in an area they are not familiar with or have moved away for work reasons and wanting to socialise but have to pay to do so. Im not even sure what the payment goes to as once you join you can make your own socials so its not like its costing a great deal to organise things. They seem to be really running as as a money making business. I dont tend to meet many people through work and been wanting to do this for a few years as living away from friends as moved away.

Just seems everything has to have a price and found myself feeling really isolated and as with most of us money is really tight because my work hours have been cut. Once Ive found a new job hopefully things will get better. Ive scoured the internet and there is nothing else around.
