Couch to 5k challenge

I too am very proud that I am on week four and jogging 5 minutes in a go, week one nearly died doing one minute!

I hope this is the same for me! really struggled with week 1 day 1! lol but day 2 today and like I say was a little easier. Jogging for 5 mins non stop seems like an eternity away!

Don't even think about it just concentrate on the day you're on!!!

Yes I would agree. Don't look ahead. Take each run at a time. I did peak ahead and felt that I couldn't do it. The hardest part is making the commitment, you can always do a run again if you need to. I feel so much fitter and have more energy.

Asics or however u spell it trainers are on offer on sportsdirect.com and in store too :)

Down 2lb for me this week!

Hello All, I have been lurking on this thread for a few days now and I finally picked up the courage to try the C25K. I am on week 1 and completed run 2 last night. I have enjoyed hearing all your motivational stories and I am hoping that I can complete the training. I might not be the faster runner/jogger but I am determined to do this!

Welcome and well done getting started!
Lol I am so slow jogging its not even funny, but I reckon once its mastered it can be improved so don't be worrying about that!

Down 2lb for me this week!

Welldone Gemini!
I was going to ask is it a great helper to the wieght loss.
I cycle most days but want to jaz things up abit, So I will be alternating days.

I have read elsewhere that asics (think that's the name) are the best runners for running or to go to a proper running shop to get advice and fitted, I am suffering very bad with shin splints and I think this could be part of the reason that my footwear is not good enough!

Sounds like you have a similar problem to me, before I started running I joined a ladies gym, which had jogging boards between all the machines (you did 30-40 secs per machine with 30-40 secs jogging in between) after a couple of weeks I had severe pains in the insides of my shins, so bad I had to take a couple of days off work (couldn't even walk from the car park to the building!)

Went to see a physio who put it down to a combination of not exercising for a long time, being overweight, over/under pronation (I forget which way round I am) and poor support from my trainers.

I went to a specialist running shop to buy my shoes, they checked my gait and running style and from the entire range in the shop narrowed it down to about 4 pairs of trainers that were suitable for me - so it really is worth looking into trying a decent shop. I've had no problems since so it must have worked.

They can be a bit expensive though, Sportsdirect will be cheaper and Asics are on offer and one of the brands that are good for running shoes, but its sometimes a bit hit and miss as to whether you get an assistant who knows what they are doing, maybe try and get there on a week day so you get served by a full time employee rather than a Saturday assistant.

Thanks Mandy296, living in Spain I don't think I have ever come across specialist running shops but I will ask around, and buying them online defeats the purpose of getting a proper fitting!

Lookingforme, I can't really say it's made the weightless more as it's slow progress but it can't be doing any harm!

Hi girls! I am just starting to follow a jog/walk programme that I have in a book. It also results in you running 5k, but it starts off easier as you start by alternating 1 min jogging with 4 mins walking. If anyone is interested let me know, and I may attempt to type it out!

I am not new to running - in early pregnancy, before I knew I was pregnant, i ran my second half marathon. i had actually been training for a full marathon but on the day I just didn't feel right doing the whole thing and just did the half instead - perhaps my body was trying to tell me something! However, after 9months of pregnancy and 3 months on from a c-section I feel really out of shape so am going back to basics and starting off slowly...

Hi guys I didn't know this thread was here, it's great! Just completed week 5 day 3 today and got to say it was not as bad as I thought it would be! When I started I really struggled to run for even one minute, can hardly believe I did 20 today.

I'm training for the race for life in june and then hoping to progress to 10k once i've done that. I actually really look forward to my morning run now and I was a complete fitness phobe before!

Well done everyone x

Do you know what? I'm going to start the official one next week and join you if that's ok?

BTW, for those who are talking of running shoes, i saw some in Lidls the other day of all places! I don't know what they are like. My first pair of running shoes were some Mizuno ones I bought online for £30 and they lasted for years and never did me any harm. My next and current pair, I decided to go and get my gait analyzed and do it properly and I paid over £100 for them as apparently I over-pronate, but they felt no better or worse than my first ones tbh! They were Mizuno ones too. I have found Mizuno to be the most comfortable fit for me - I have quite wide feet.

Well done clareel for week 5 run 3. I have just done this too and now I have to pinch myself to believe I have just run for a full 20 mins.

Will check out the trainers thanks for all comments. So far have managed in my walking trainers but think I should get something designed for running.

Well done eatwell! X

I still have to run week 4 run 3, but I'm excited to get to week 5, can't imagine I may be running for 20 mins, hoping by the end of the week, cos I'm away all next weekend...
