Decluttering

big bear

A bear on a mission!
Hi guys

I'm trying so hard to declutter and sort out the kids room but I end up making more of a mess. It's like things get put in piles and moved from 1 room to another.

I've got so much kids clothes boys & girls and I've tried to sell with no success and I've no room to put stuff that fits them.

Any tips? I'm getting stressed out trying to sort everything but I feel as if I'm drowning in 'stuff'

Thanks

Thanks girls. I think that's what I'll do and I'm also going to get rid off my clothes I don't wear. I think I'll just have to be ruthless.

Have you seen the 'flylady' website? It's all about getting your house in order and getting on top of things. There is a lot of practical advice in there so that you don't feel like you're drawing under the piles of stuff! Maybe it is worth a look?

Right best way to declutter your wardrobe, is set aside an hour Get everything out of your wardrobe (or half the wardrobe if it's large), Pile it on the bed.
Now get two bags Label one Charity and the other Rags.
Pick up every item and if you love it, put it back in the wardrobe, if you don't look for moth holes, stains etc if you find any put it into the rag bag, if it's ok pop it into the charity bag.
Carry on until the pile is gone.

If you're unsure about an item pop a piece of paper over the hanger, write on the date. Next time you wear it tear the paper off. If it's still unworn in six month then it goes straight to charity.

Take both bags to the charity shop with labels attached they can get money on the rags and will appreciate the pre labelling! OR just pop them in a clothing bin.

General decluttering, spend 15 minutes a day set a timer, pick a different room each day, have three carrier bags, one to donate, one to relocate, and one to throw away. Before long your life will be clutter free!
Teach the kids to do it in their rooms too.

For 'artwork' by the kids get some scrapbooks and pritt stick, help the kids store their work (date each one for you).

To keep on top of the clothes that kids grow out of have a second laundry basket one of those cheap pop up ones, as the kids grow out of stuff chuck it in the basket.
A bag attached to the inside of the wardrobe deals with odd socks.

Kids shoes can't be sold in charity shops but the sally army bins can take them.

Think about other things that clutter the home and create storage for them, a concertina file for household paperwork.
A bag for papers to be shredded.

I'm in the midst of some HEAVY decluttering! I am never getting into that trouble again!

These are great ideas! I recently had my first baby, he's nearly 4 months old and now the house is a state! I really need to get on top of it again as it's getting me down, but I find when I start it gets worse before it gets better and it's so discouraging that I give up so it stays worse than it was before!! Will give some if these ideas a go and see how I go on! Xx

I found moving house was a good declutter remedy! Lol. Threw soooo much out. However, now back to normal service, love love love your tips shirleen! Especially the odd sock bag :) They should be made into an off topic sticky!
