Diets and medication

Hi
Does anyone else struggle with dieting due to medication? I am on steroids (budesonide aka entocort) and methotrexate for my Crohns Disease ( a form of inflammatory bowel disease)
It makes losing weight that bit harder and I'm losing about 1/2 a pound a week at the mo (slimming world)
I just wondered if any other minimins have the same barrier to weightloss

Hi,

you have my total sympathy, having Crohns. It`s not an easy disease to live with, from what i`ve seen. My brother has had it for 31 years now. As far as weight, the steroids don`t seem to effect him much(he has a little pot belly but that`s all and that could be due to age, he`s 51). He has worked at sedentary jobs for years now and doesn`t do any exercise, so he`s probably either lucky, got good weight genes from someone or it could be that he`s a man(us women seem to put on weight as soon as we look at food :p)!

I know it`s not easy but try not to get disheartened. Like I tell a friend who struggles, "at least you`re not putting on, so it`s already better than it was before"(i`ve lost 8 odd stone myself, so I know dieting is hard). Keep at it, you`ll get there :)!

Steroids are known for weight gain, my mum was on them and struggled with her weight.

I'm on methotrexate & Etanercept for Psoriatic arthritis, and I can say for absolute certain that it affects weight - my specialists told me it has an impact on weight, and that one would struggle to lose weight on the drugs

*hugs for you* I have a lot of crohns in the family, was tested for it as well, thankfully negative.. horrific disease. Look after yourself xx

Really glad I read this thread - I am also on methotrexate and etanercept and have long suspected that my weight was affected by them. I was never told this by the doc tho so thought it was just me lol!!

Not on any but my partner is and it definitely slows down weight loss... Good luck and remember any loss however small is an achievement x

I'm on them for psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis! Am going to be changing over to stelara in a couple of months tho as they aren't working as well anymore. How long have you been on them?
