How do you plan your meals?

im a monday night planner .. i weigh in wednesdays so my new weeks starts thurs, but have to do my food shop tues eve.

i make my list of meals, one i really fancy! .. then i make a list of the ingrediants i'l need.. as well as checking the cupboards so i dont double buy.. then.. i get really geeky..

i then make a third list, regrouping all my 'ingrediants' into order (dairy, meats, veg) and then in order of how they come up in the store.. for example the first bit i walk into is the fruit and veg, so then i have fruit and veg, then meats, then dairy and eggs, then tins and 'other' items such as fry lights etc.

hehehehe, im a looooser!

Omg! I do that!!!!

Yes Im a planner too ... Im a thursday night planner because I go my asda trolley dash on a friday morning before work .... I sit on a thursday night ... plan 7 dinners and puds .. we love our puds!!! Then vary it for my fussy son but generally we all eat the same and its brilliant!!

I buy what's on offer, then look in the fridge and decide what I'm eating tonight... :)
Since I buy the same thing week after week, so far it's usually roast chicken dinners every night.. takes all the fussing out of it.. :)

I have weigh in on Weds evenings and my day off work is on a Thurs. So it's ideal for me to start fresh my week on the Weds Night or Thurs morning. I spend the morning planning out all my meals for the week, I get my meal inspiration from my sw friends, on here and also the sw books I have got. I then complete one of these......

I then write down all the food/drinks I need for the week and I do a food shop. I like to plan ahead as I feel this keeps me on track and also helps with the food bills too. Now I plan, I dont go spending loads on food all the time and now only shop when I need to top up the fresh foods.

We plan on Sunday too - sit and look through our SW recipe books, write the ingredients we need for each meal. At the bottom of the list we write the general things we need and just buy what's on the list.

I do my shopping on a Sunday or Monday, I go through my cupboards to check staples are topped up. I then sit down and plan what evening meals we will be having during the week. I then check ingredients and write whats needed on the meal list. I also combine game given to me into meals so it gets used at its freshest, this week I had 3 partridges given to me, so Monday going to have a lovely salad with rocket and flash fried partridge breast. I always make sure I have things like tuna, eggs, ham, crackerbreads and cottage cheese for lunches. Plus I make soups, I usually decide what flavour soup I am going to make and buy accordingly.

what's with the "biggest loser" shake bottle? :)

I like your food porn... although I'm hungry now..
might try a couple of quorn sausages and see what they taste like... either that or a cup of fresh made speed soup and 4 scan bran to dunk...

Scan bran dunked in soup..i must try that. I only have made scan bran cakes, when dunked in soup do they go "mushy" like?

depends on how runny your soup is..
the stuff I just made is a bit thick, so it might take a while to soak up the juice... but I've noticed that scan bran is quite absorbant..

I bought the Biggest Loser shake/bottle the other day as I liked the look of it and thought it was good for work to put my syn free juice in.....
And before you ask no im not doing the biggest loser shakes diet, I'd starve on that, have u seen my meal portions??? lol xx

This is really interesting and helpful to read, thanks. At the moment I don't plan at all. My family is quite disorganised and we are very last minute shoppers (that means when the fridge looks empty lol). I like the idea of ordering the shopping list by what comes first in the supermarket!

I definitely need to get into some sort of habit. I never know when I am going to be staying at my bf's or not so that makes it a little tricky (can't cook proper meals there).

I sometimes find ordering my food online better too. Im a sucker for bargains or picking up stuff on offer.
But when I order online I purely on search for the things I have on my shopping list so it is a much better way to control what I am spending and at least when your at home you can pop into the kitchen and double check if there is anything else you need to add to the order before you confirm it.

we are on a low budget so i tend to buy reduced meat, keep it in freezer and plan from there.
rather than plan out specific days i tend to write a list of meals out-based on what we have in and pick from that list day by day so i get what i fancy rather than what it says.
i did do it day by day before but found often id not want what was written down for that day and as such wouldnt enjoy it so much.
last week we planned the next 45 evening meals from whats in freezers......i have a list of 45 varied sw meals and each morning/or eve before we go to bed we pick from the list what we would like and get out of freezer.

I plan loosely which means that I have an idea what we will have but as I am quite a fussy eater I just decide sometimes the night before or on the actual day what I will cook, depends how I feel. If I planned for the week I know it would go wrong as I dont know what I may fancy a week in advance

I do a weekly menu, this way we only buy ingredients that we need! this way if you buy meat in a packet you can split it for two meals and plan for it.
also when I make chilli con carni we have it for dinner with rice, then for supper with a baked potato, two for the price of one!
I also look for "deals" at the supermarket and special offers as well as B.O.G.O.F s.
