'Meaty' fish - alternative to Cod

Hi all,

A while ago I saw some threads which mentioned a fish that I meant to search out & try but for the life of me, can't remember it's name. I think it could even have gone by 2 different names (iykwim).

I'm looking for a chunky fish, like cod loin (but hopefully a bit cheaper!).

Any suggestions please peeps :)

Coley is what I generally use as a cod substitute. Its got big white flakes like cod and is very tasty and much cheaper and more sustainable.

River Cobbler can also be used but is much firmer than cod or coley and doesn't flake in the same way.

Don't know if it was specifically either of these two you were thinking of though.

Thanks Ellie ~ Basa rings a bit of a bell so I'll trot off to Aldi tomorrow.

Thanks Atomic Pink ~ not heard of River Cobbler but will try to find it & give it a go.

VMT Derbynanny - I recon it must've been this one that I'd remembered seeing on posts before ... the one with 2 different names! Off to Asda I go :D

Before I was veggie I used to eat pollock, it is very similar to cod/haddock.
