My 12 Week Challenge starting today - Anyone care to join? - LETS DO IT!!

Hey hey!!! Well Day 2 and I'm hanging in there!! It's hard but I've done it before, So I know I can do it again. But this needs to be the last time!! Hopped on the scale and I'm down 5 pounds, It's just water weight I know but it feels good :)

Wow enlightenme2 5 pounds in 2 days is amazing!!! I'm hanging on in there too - day 1 and I didn't expect headaches and dizziness so soon! Have had all 3 packs already so just water and black coffee for the rest of the evening! Think it will be a very early night for me!!

I think I'm in ketosis. My tummy feels contented and I feel much calmer. Yipeee I'm remaining 100% I'm not coming outta ketosis until my CDC says so. Why is it dangerous to be in and out of ketosis? Seen a few comments about it on other threads but no one says what happens? Anyone know?

Evening all! Day 1 complete and tbh I didn't have time to think about food today - a 12 hr shift turned into 15 so I'm having a hot vanilla shake, a bath and I'm off to my bed... Roll on tomorrow I say

I am a serial weigher so I'm going to do my best to weigh in every Friday morning - that is gonna be tough!

How is everyone else doing? Have a fabulous Saturday Xx

Im on my 5th week of CD- and admit last night I had a boiled egg (recommended by my consultant when I REALLY need something extra - a egg is 63calories) - I felt soooooooooooooooo much better AND slept better for having something real in my tummy!

Today is day 30.

Hi Lastchance4me! Welcome to the group. No worries. You CAN do this! We are all there to support you and cheer you on! Here's to a successful 12 weeks! :)

It's so WONDERFUL to see everyone doing so well so far! I could not weigh myself today as I am not at home right now. I will probably be only able to weigh myself on Monday. But everything is going good so far. I hope to see a good loss when I weight myself next :)

Cham - it isn't dangerous to be in and out of ketosis. In fact, most of us go in and out of ketosis when eating normally - for example, when we miss meals or sleep overnight - then come out of it again at the next meal. Ever noticed how sometimes you don't feel hungry until you start eating carby stuff? :) But on Cambridge you stay in ketosis all the time. Going in and out will make you struggle with feeling hungry so once you're in ketosis, life is a lot easier if you stay in it - in other words, avoid cheating. :)

By the way, to answer your question Cham...to put it simply, ketosis is when your body has switched over to using your body fat to burn energy. Usually our bodies utilize the carbohydrates for energy at first if it is available. But since a person in ketosis does not have carbs to utilize for energy, it switches over to utilizing the body fat. So to put it more simply...this is when the actual fat loss begins. It takes 2-3 days for a person to go into ketosis. Until then, the loss is usually water loss. That is why it is not a good idea to get out of ketosis since it takes 2-3 days for the body to go back into ketosis and start burning fat again. If we do choose to eat solid food, proteins are the first choice and carbs are the worst choice. When eating proteins, the body will still be in ketosis. That is why Jillybeans CDC suggested eating a boiled egg if you wanted to chew on something. Chicken is another alternative. But it is always better to stick to the SS 100% whenever possible for best results. Hope this explanation is clear....

Thanks for the welcome slimgorgeousme! Great to see everyone doing so well at sticking to it. I gotthrough day 1 yesterday, was surprised that I had a headache all day and felt dizzy at times, thought that wouldn't happen until day 2 or 3! Feeling good so far today tho' and woke up not feeling hungry which must be a good sign!!:)

Thankyou for explanation I just wondered why people were saying it was dangerous for the body but anyhow I'm staying in K as its much more kinder to my body. Xx

You're welcome Cham. :) To explain a few side effect of ketosis( which vary from person to person depending on their genetic makeup) are gout, kidney stones, heart palpitations, bad breath, decrease in bone density etc....bad breath is a common occurrence for most people in ketosis, but other than that, the other side effects mentioned only occur if the diet is continued for a long period of time, the diet is high protein, like the Atkins diet or you have some other medical conditions. That is why it is recommended to see the doctor before beginning this diet. Also, the CB diet is in no way a high protein diet, and 3-4 servings a day, provide all the nutrients and minerals a person needs as per the RDA requirements, but with the minimal calories. Nothing to worry at all. If you want effective and swift fat loss, ketosis is the state to be in, provided you have no other medical complants :)

Of course pookieboo! Welcome to the team!! All you have to do is update your starting date, ending date (that is, on completion of 12 weeks of SS), and starting weight in your profile on the left hand side. Here's to wishing you fabulous success in the coming 12 weeks! :)

Absolutely true slimgorgeousme! The important thing about quick and continual losses, are to STAY in ketosis. That means NO Carbs, NO sugar...... boiled egg, chicken breast or tinned tuna (in water) were recomended by my CDC if you simply HAVE to eat something (and celery) - however, she told me NOT to do this too often.

Once you're over the first 10 days (for me it was day 5-9 that were the worst) you are basically "in the zone" and you should not feel hungry. The trick is to try stay away from other people eating food as temptation is just too great (again, my opinion)

Ketosis is not great either... stinky breathe and I even have a "furry" tongue!!!:p I know my stomach has strunk too which should be good for when I do eventually start eating meals again.

Funny, I've tried all sorted of diets - and have now become afraid of eating carbs. I did the Zoe Harcomb diet (no carbs) about a year ago and lost some weight, but once you start eating carbs again, the weight finds you. I still have the 'no carb' mindset and am not drawn to eating carbs - the things I want to eat right now are fruit, chicken, wine...LOL... I dont crave the carbs, but do crave a lovely rump steak! hahaha

Socialising is hard - so I've just declined.

My family know I'm on a diet, but dont know WHAT diet as I know they will be critical of the 'no food' part.... was invited to my dad to night for a healthy dinner which I lied and said I was already going out, coz didnt know how to tell him I cant eat ANYTHING!

What do you do for the lack of bowel movements? I'm drinking green tea which is disgusting!

Ok so I'm day 3 SS really struggles yesterday and ended up having one extra pack, feeling a bit better today and haven't cheated atall, but have been extra tired today, hoping that means I'm right about to go into ketosis? I always find weekends the hardest what does everyone else do to distract themselves?
