    Hello,

I'm just looking for some advice really, I don't really know who to talk to about this whos responce is 'i'm sure it'll be fine' and thought that hearing from people going through the same thing might help.

I'm 25 and had been on the pill since I was 16 (before which I had semi regular periods), I came off it 12months ago and since then I have only had one period in December, I thought maybe it was the pill 'working its way out of my system' however The Dr gave me blood test which revealed I wasn't produceing progesterone. I also had an appointment with a radiologist on Wednesday who confirmed what he saw 'was in line with the pcos the Dr suspected' but I'd need to talk with a gynagologist.

I'n the mean time i'm left with about a zillion questions buzzing arround my head. Firstly what can I do to help this?, alot of websites say to louse weight however i'm currently a healthy BMI - I could prehaps louse a few lbs's - but would this be detrimental? Also from what I can see on websites most ppl with pcos have periods more regularly than once a year, could this mean I might have problems because I haven't bled?

Also where do I go from here, alot of the websites talk about getting pregnant, but although I desperatly want to be able to have a family one day i'm currently single and so babies are not on my immediate cards. Also It seems to be a bit back to frount going on the pill to blead when i'm scared of infertility.

Sorry if this is a bit muddled, but i'm just not sure what to expect from here and I know people become experts on their conditions, would really appriciate talking to some other people who know where i'm coming from. Thank you for reading this.

    Vicky xx

I think i'm going to find out about low GI diets and see if this might help my periods to return...i'll post again if it works. If anyone has had luck with low Gi diets, or does/takes anything that helps please let me know :) xx

Vicky I started a low GI diet on Sunday night to deal with my pcos (after reading other peoples positive experiences). I've already lost 2lbs and I feel much less sluggish (I was probably sluggish due to poor eating though, not pcos). If you're a healthy bmi maybe you should talk to your doctor again though, mine keeps telling me if I lose weight, it'll sort itself out.

I have PCOS and suffer from lack of periods. My GP prescribed me provera to have a periods, as he said I needed to have 4 periods a year to ensure that my chances of developing cervical cancer is the same as someone with regular cycles. Here's some information:

Thank you ladies :) Its good to know i'm not alone! I've done the GI diet most of this week, just trying to eat mainly low and a few medium - allowing myself one hi one to the value of 100cals a day (coz a life without chocolate or a glass of wine isn't really a life!) hopefully something will come of it. Its so funny how everyone seems to be complaining about there periods arround me at the moment - i'd do anything for one!!! Also started taking evening primrose oil as i was told that might help??..... come on body! xxx

Let me know how your all getting on, has anyone gone as long as me and then got back regular periods? *fingers crossed* xxx

WOW!!! I can't really believe it but there must be something to the low Gi thing because I got my period yesterday :)

Most people complain when they get a period i feel like jumping for joy!

Gonna stick with it and hopefully there won't be such a long gap next time xxxx

another period! I know it's 'technically' later than it should be, but considering i wasn't having any its really unexpected!!! I have however managed to gain weight on the Gi not lose but as long as my period are coming I think i'll stick with it.

So shocked and happy :) xx

    thats great news ykciv1985
i know what you mean about not having a period and being thrilled when you finally get one - I went for 16 months without one a few years ago! Due to change of pill they restarted but those 16 months were awful and I literally jumped for joy when they restarted!

I went from the age of 18 to the age of 21(almost 22) with only having 1 period. I asked my doctor what was wrong with me on numerous occasions but he always told me I just needed to lose some weight. So i tried and i tried and i tried some more but my weight wouldnt budge and neither would my periods come. Then i moved house, leading to a new doctor who put me forward for some blood tests and an internal which revealed I had PCOS. This wasnt a shock to me because I sort of guessed it anyway. but instead of offering me support, my doctor just said 'Yeah, but no one likes having a period - You dont want them back do you?' I was really shocked.
I told him, that without a period, i dont feel like a woman. So he put me on the pill for 6 months, even though I had told him on a number of occasions that I want a baby.
I find that just because PCOS is so common, they think we dont deserve or need the help. But I feel so alone.

I have to admit, that on the pill, I do get my regular period, but chances of my long wish of having a baby are out the window for the time being.

you remind me very much of my DIL , she didnt have periods just like you ,and at one point they thought she had got PCOS, when she was single it didnt bother her to much, but when she was 30 and married and wanting to have a baby it was a different story.

but she started to take PREGCARE from the healthfood shop, you take it before getting pregnant , because it is full of all the things the body needs to work right , and for the first time ever she had 4 periods one every month, and on the fifth month she was pregnant, i know you are no looking to get pregnant but it might fix you perod problems , some times it just might be something that our body is missing that will do the trick

my DIL did not have periods so she started taking PREGCARE from the healthfood shop, its full of all the things the body needs to work right, and she had 4 periods one every month , and she was 30 and didnt have periods so it was like a miricle , because on the 5th month she was preggy

Thank you for your replies :) I amazingly have another period (I'm always shocked) the other thing i'm doing is taking evening primrose and angus castus, Chunky Monkey it might be worth you trying that too? They pills aren't cheap but you can get them on 3 for 2 in Boots and somethings got to have changed because although my period aren't regular I'm for some reason having them! Also i'm making more low Gi choices than befor but i'm definatelly not being a saint. If you do try them, let me know what you think :) xx
