Pavlova disaster! Help needed!

    Hi folks, I need your help!

    I searched on here, I searched on google, I searched a lot! I was looking for a low syn pavlova recipe, which I got, but it didn't work. What I got was a flat squishy brown omlette type thing! Not pleasant and went right in the bin. What did I do wrong? Here's the method I used:

    5 egg whites
    1 cup sweetener
    1 tsp vanilla essence

    Beat the eggs, whisk in the sweetener 1tbsp at a time, add vanilla essence and whisk until smooth peaks then pour onto baking paper and bake for 90 mins at 180C.

    Can one of you lovely lot tell me why it didn't work? Btw, every recipe I looked at had different oven temperatures and different ingredients. I got this one off a facebook group!

    did you leave it cool before you took it out of oven?can make a difference

    i dont think sweetner works in meringues, but thats my option. it always goes yellow and undercooked

    I have to admit I don't like meringues made with sweetener, they taste foul. But thats my personal opinion.

    Only thing I can think of is that you didnt quite whisk them firm enough or did you open the oven at all during cooking time? Other than that I am not sure.

    I opened the oven yeah as it started to burn. I'll try again!
