PET'S CORNER - for all those with furry friends..

vet said he was doing extremly well considering ihe should have died at least 3 times in the past 2 weeks!

his heart rate is slower than last time, but still not right. its running too fast, but his breathing is clear, sounds like his lungs are nice and clear.

the stitches will come out next tuesday, is healing well, and he hasn't tried to pull the stitches out.

she wanted to book him in with the heart specialist for a scan, but she said not for a few weeks, they want him to get stronger before they give him the anaesthetic.

i dont think i will have this done.

i cant put him through another anaesthetic again...its too much strain on him..hes come back from the dead 3 times already..

i know hes got a heart problem. what will the scan tell? they cant operate or do anything to improve his heart..these drugs seem to be doing their job. they will put him u nder anaesthetic again scan his heart, and tell me hes got to stay on medication for the rest of his life. i know that already.

i fell that and if hes going to die..then its going to be at home of heart failure, rather than on a surgery table in the vets under anaesthetic

i dont want to chance it all again..

I keep watching his breathing, his chest moving and comparing it to Tango...normal heart

last night a little tuft of white furr on his chest was tick tick ticking away ever so fast..i guess thats where his heart is. i was trying to look at Tangos chest..his was hardly moving

today he tried to pounce on a pencil i was poking under the end of the rug. making it look like a mouse caught under the carpet, he pounced, and poked his paws under the rug to try to catch the 'mouse' . he looked like he was having good fun.

now hes sleeping on the floor in the conservatory.

Hi Jo and Jacob - hey you could call him Jake the Peg now ;)

I am so glad he's getting better, Jo. I get more upset when my doggies are ill than i ever did when the kids were poorly!

OK then, as for the wooden floors, how about some paw wax?

http://www.shawspet.co.uk/ProductDetails.asp?ProductID=27964

You can get it from a pet shop or online and it's brilliant. My mate uses it for her dogs and cats on her wooden flooring and ceramic tiles :)

:)
we do call him Jake the peg.... and Wonky.

hubby went to work the other day, proudly declaring that we have a Pirate Cat.

our friends came around yesterday, they were amazed by him. their little boy said he was incredible and was fascinated by our 3 legged cat. he was so good with him, he gently stroked him, and told us to be quiet as Jacob wanted to sleep!

Hi Devonbabe,

Delighted Jacob is doing so well, it is amazing how they can get over things.

I met a man at the beach today and his dog had three good legs and the paw was deformed on the fourth, the dog was knocked down by a car five years ago and he has been like this ever since and he was perfectly happy playing and somehow can still swim according to his owner?

Hi Jo,

Sorry not to have posted sooner but we have been flat to the boards this week counselling and we are covering 4 of my counsellors as well.

So pleased to read about Jacob, don't worry too much about how much he is trying to do. Saffy did all this but soon realised her limitations. She really is a happy healthy tripod cat three years on.

I suppose with Jacob watch his weight, Saffy has gained, but of course Jacob has heart problem it could cause more strain. Losing a back leg is far better than using a front leg so I have been told.

I think you are right not to subject him to another anaesthetic unless it becomes really necessary.

Keep us posted.

the little bugger, clawed his way around the base of my sofa this morning!! he thought it was really funny, cause when i told him off he rolled on his back and mewed at me.

he ate his breakfast and promptly bounced down the stairs and ran...yes RAN...into the conservatory

he keep looking longinly at the doors and windows.
the windows are open a little crack and he sits looking up at them sniffing the fresh air that blows through

hes not ready to go out yet, another couple of weeks and then maybe. i just know as soon as i let him out he will be through the hedge and into the woods at the back of us. out garden backs onto the vicirage and theres a big wall to clamber over, its ok for him going down but he wont be able to get back again

hubby said to get him a cat harness so we can walk him around our garden supervised.

were on hols in 3 weeks, so i will have to make sure my mum whos looking after them both is well rehersed with how to keep him in, whilst Tango can get in and out.

i think Tango will have to be an 'office' cat for a week. so if we leave the office window open and keep the door shut, he can come and go. whilst Jacob will have the run of the house, and cant get out. theres no other way of closing half the house off.

i know im going to spend the whole time on holiday worrying what happening at home.

so, looking pretty good in the Jacob world today

im having my hair done tomorrow
and the inlaws are visiting=ughhhhhhhh

Jo, I'm so pleased Jacob is recovering so well :D If you want to let Tango out but not Jacob then how about one of those magnetic cat flaps? You could only put a magnetic tag on Tango and that way, Jacob wouldn't be able to get out.

He's obviously feeling better in himself if he's rolling over for a belly rub when he's naughty - my dogs do this too. Little monkeys :D:D:D:D

LMAO I can just imagine it :D

Jo, we used to have two cats, brothers. One could and would use the flap and did with ease. The other one would sit and stare at it and meow or occasionally he would hit it with his paw. He'd never use it but would wait for someone to open the door for him. He also used to knock on the letterbox when he wanted to come back in - he was far too posh to use a catflap hahaha

Great news that Jacob is having his stitches out.

I wonder how his heart is? Will it ever get better?

just got home to find Jacob missing!

hunted the house. no where to be found

he was waiting outside the kitchen door to be let back in

to get out hes gone down a spiral stiarcase, through the garden lounge into the office, hes pushed a cushion out of the way that was blocking the catfalp, gone through the cat flap in the utility, jumped up onto the loo. onto the windowsill and out of a little top window!

not bad for a 3 legged cat with a heart problem!

hes had his supper and his pills and is asleep again behind the sofa

Forget recue remedy, you need knock out drops for him.

With the fright he gave you it's a good job you don't have a heart problem

Aww Bubbles - how cute!!!!

Is Monty a cavalier king charles? My pooch Pepper is half cavalier kc and half miniature German schnauzer (I know, I know - strange combination! :D ) Her mum was a tri-colour CKC.
That Milo is just ADORABLE!

Yep monty is a cavalier king charles. We had a girl before called ruby as she was the ruby colour. she died few years back from a heart condition.
I love the breed so much so I bought monty around 3 years ago i paid a lot of money for him but he is sooo worth it! his dad is entered in crufts all the time and he was the last puppy in the litter as he wasnt wanted by most people as he wouldnt be able to show due to his white colouring down the front, but i wanted him! milo is my sisters dog we have NO idea what breed he is but most people reckon cross between a jack russell and a westie. He is adorable as well, was treated very badly as a pub by a previous owner who beat him etc so he has emotional problems and you can still see it 9 years later he is a sweetheart as well and they get on very well x

Bless that Jacob - I hope he is recovering well. :)

I have 3 rescue persian cats - Sol a very big red boy, Fabian a very shy black boy and Foofoo a petite but loud lilacpoint girl :) As is normal Foofoo is the boss :p

Awwwww - I love looking at your pics of your furry babies - they are all so gorgeous!!!!

As the current proud 'parent' of a kitten and 3 fish (!), I'm longing for a dog. Am working on my bf who inadvertently let it slip that he quite likes black labs - he's just so not a pet person (his only fault lol) so fingers crossed, I might be able to wangle him to agree to getting a puppy!!
