Has anyone been pregnant and carried on going to SW?

I'm trying to get pregnant at the moment (not right this second you'll be please to know :p ) and I've been told that I can only carry on going to SW group once I'm pregnant, is if I get a letter from my midwife saying it's ok.

As I'm diabetic I'll probably be having 2 midwives, would I need a letter from each!?

I would have thought that as long as the main MW is happy for you to continue attending class and signs the form (your Consultant will give you that), then go for it.
Your Consultant will run through the changes in the plan with you...there arent that many to be honest just the Hes.
Fingers crossed for you Huni.

xxxx

Yes you can carry on, I went for a bit with my second pregnancy but didnt keep it up - you will just need one letter, but your midwife will want to know lots about it to make sure you are eating ok esp being diabetic. Best of luck getting preggers!

Thanks guys.

I'm worried in case the MW says no, she won't sign it. But I think I'll just tell her that I'm going to carry on sticking to SW plan whether she let's me carry on going to group or not.

Firstly, woo.. good luck on getting preggers honey!

.. so im kinda confused.. are you asking if you have to stop slimmingworld whilst trying, and the re-start once your actually pregnant? seems a bit strange to me. Carry on with sw, and then once preggers, get your form signed obvs.. but i dont see why sw would lessen your chances or wouldn't be suitable for 'trying' but for actually being pregnant? LOL xxx

Lol....your confusing me now.

I want to know if there have been MW that have refused to sign the form.

Of course I'm sticking to group whilst we're still trying to get PG. I'm worried that a MW won't sign the form to let me continue at SW once I am PG.

I hope this makes sense

Haha. Okay, i knew somthing didnt make sence!!! LOL

iv never heard of anyone being refused unless there are other underlying problems that could cause problems or harm to mother/bbay xx

Hi Ninja

Good luck in getting pregnant ! We're trying, but the last couple of months we're giving it a rest for me to lose a bit of weight ;)..... to be honest I dont see how a mw would advise you not to follow sw, even when pg and having diabetes. SW doesnt limit the amount of food you can eat, there are plenty of free fruit/veg/high protein/high carb foods. Its a healthy plan, I cant see why they'd disagree with the SW principles. To be honest, if mw does tell you not to, I'd want mw to give me a very very good plan (for me to follow) but I dont think you'd get better than SW.

Good luck :)

Hi, when i was pg I took my wee form that I got from my consultant to my MW and she signed it no problem. I went to class for about 12 weeks of my pregnancy then left as I was gaining weight and I didn't like being reminded of it (I knew it was natural though)

I actually only gained 8lbs whilst I was pg. Before i got pg i was 11st 2 and when i got out of hospital i was 11st 10. Since then though (in the last 3 years I've gone up to 12 12 lol) So I can't blame that on him! Basically I've gained over a stone in 3 years.

Good luck with the TTC ing.

i think if u see a diabetes specialist midwife regularly (which u should) she would be the one best to get to sign it as she will be the one who s going to be looking at your carbs and bm's and the likes. a midwife would only refuse to sign something if she had a good reason for thinking it would be detrimental to your health or that of babe. I think sw is quite well adaptable to your needs in pregnancy so i would think they would be supportive of you tweaking it to be pregnancy and diabetes friendly. You have to run on much tighter BM control while u are preg, im not sure if they would need to modify things a bit to keep u in that range.
ps, if u are already diabetic u should be having lots of pre pregnancy counselling to get ur bm's tightly in good range as your conception bm's have a massive impact on the health of your baby..but u prob already know all this :D good luckk with ttc xx

I have asked my doctor to refer me to a pre conception clinic....that was back in August and I still haven't heard anything about it. In fact my doctor didn't even know anything about it. I had to explain it to him (my doctor is terrible). I'm nearly 38 and I don't have a lot of time left on my side so I've given up waiting to hear about the pre conception clinic. My BM's were very good at my last apt with diabetic clinic, they took me off of insulin as I don't need it at the moment.

Awww honey congrats on trying to have a baby! How exciting! can't add to the advice but wanted to say I hope you're ok and to keep us posted! *yay* xx

Hi congrats! i am also trying for a baby this is the second month off my pill but for some reason ive had 2 periods in 3 weeks so its not looking all that good for this month .

I cant see there being a problem, i fully intend to stick to the plan with no adjustments throughout the pregnancy once i get there, i cant honestly see it doing any harm its healthy and full of fruit and veg and protein and calcium and carbs, i wont be drinking or smoking when pregnant so i think compared to other people thats one pretty healthy pregnancy plan in my mind lol!

Good luck! XXX

please try and see someone for preconception counselling as it so so important, u need to be on an extra high dose of folic acid i believe and get ur bms tightly under control. if u do that u cut the risks associated with diabetes in the growing baby which can be pretty severe.
this guideline explains what ur aiming for and why, well worth a read. http://www.nice.org.uk/nicemedia/pdf/CG063QuickRefGuide1.PDF
ps, very poor that u havent already been counselled about it to be honest as all childbearing age women should be. Good luck xx
