Prostate Cancer

I just picked up on your thread Sue. I'm sorry to hear of your worries right now. I work in the NHS and it might not be all bad news that they have called your dad back for the scan. It may mean that there was nothing in the biopsy and they are just checking for any other reasons for the high reading. If there is something in it they may just be checking the growth rate. I don't want to worry you or give out false hope but there are many reasons why they could be scanning. Check with your dad as they usually tell the patient before performing other tests and scans if there was something in the biopsy.

As a previous poster said a lot of prostate tumours are slow growing. DH grandfather had one and survived for many years with it and died from natural causes and not the tumour.

I know it's hard but keep your chin up and think positively. Your dad won't be the same as your sisters FIL.

Oh and stay clear of the internet for things like this. I'm a nurse and it can scare the living hell out of me at times with the things it comes up with.;)

My thoughts are with you and your dad Sue, fingers crossed for good results from the scan, keep positive now, love to you. X

Thank you for all your support ladies xx

My dad has had the prostate scan and is due the bone one this Thursday.

My dad's original letter had said that he woud receive a phonecall yesterday which didn't happen so he rung them this morning and was told they don't give out results over the phone and the person he needs to speak to is off this week.

Minutes after hanging up he got a call back saying he has to go and see a specialist at Lincoln hospital (they live in Grantham which is where the scans have been done) on Friday.

So, come Friday my parents will know exactly what's going on xx

Good news about my dad.

There was no doubt whatsoever that he had prostate cancer because of his symptoms BUT it is in the prostate and 2 lymph nodes and hasn't spread any further. The specialist has prescribed 3 months or hormone therapy followed by 3 months of radiotherapy. After this he expects the cancer to be shrunk right back.

Thanks for all your support xxx

So pleased to read the 'good news' Pat, if I can call it that. At least the future looks a lot brighter, and the treatment less severe than it could have been. I'll be thinking of you and your family - and the old lady downstairs.

Best Wishes Sue - do keep posting.

Sue, that's good news about your Dad! *hugs*. How are you?

Julz xxx

Glad it wasn't bad news.

If it is any comfort my dad was diagnosed at 60 with prostate cancer and we all feared the worst. He has now been on hormone therapy for 10 years and has regular bone scans and although he still has the tumour it is small and causes him no real bother.
