I think you will find out more in one of Pierce's tutorials but the way I understand it is that if you read a post that you enjoy, or is useful and informative, or very wise and supportive, you can add to that person's reputation by clicking on the scales icon next to the little green light that shows you're online. It's a lovely feeling to give and receive!
