Post Break Up Body

Goodness, it's been 5 days. What on earth have I been eating.

Ok Tuesday I had to catch the train to Bayonne. I had a muffin on the train. Then a sausage bean cheese melt at St pancras (Greggs is such a weakness for me), and I bought a Mac and cheese and croissant from Pret for dinner on the Eurostar. I worked it out around 290 calories.

Wednesday I ate a pain au chocolate, plus a filet mignon lunch and then a pasta salad with brie for dinner and 4 small glasses of wine. No idea about calories. Welcome to France, I guess.

Thursday I had a piece of bread with jam and a mini croissant, plus jamon Serrano and bread for lunch, then a thinned mackerel and rice veggie 300 calorie dinner, plus 2 cans of fizzy drink. No idea about calories again.

Friday I started walking the Camino. 25km uphill today. Had a pain au raisin and an apple on the walk, then a pilgrim meal of veg soup fish and chips and a Cornetto, plus about a bottle of wine.

Saturday I covered 21km. I ate a Spanish omelette for brekky and 2/3 of a carafe of sangria at the end town. Went for pilgrim meal of potato salad, veal cutlet and peaches in syrup.

Having a wonderful time. Meeting lots of new people and always someone to share a meal or a walk with. Still feeling strong. No blisters or sore muscles. I think all the exercise last week really helped me to prepare.

Glad to hear you're having a wonderful time. The pilgrim meals sound amazing!

A quick update for two more days on the trail

Sunday, had a croissant with jam, mini muffin, tangerine and orange juice for breakfast on the way to Pamplona. At Pamplona met up with people for a glass of wine and an Aperol spritz in the sunshine. A potato tortilla for lunch and pork shoulder and potato with 3 wine glasses for dinner. Very hard to eat vegetables on this trip.

Monday. Walked to Puenta and ate a piece of baguette with cheese, fried egg and Serrano. Then a glass of wine with another pilgrim I met at the end. I had 4 glasses of wine before dinner and then salad, chicken and chips and a cheesecake and another 2 glasses of wine.

This trip is turning out a lot more boozy than I expected. It's like backpacking, but for middle-aged people. Having a wonderful time.

Another update.

Tuesday - walked 21km on a cold and overcast day. Stopped after 13kms and had a tortilla. Another pilgrim had left her body warmer in the last town so I found her to return it and had a bit of manchego and a glass of wine. In town we went for pintxos (tapas in the local dialect) at a bar. 4 glasses of wine and a mussel croquette and a pickle with tuna. For dinner shared a large salad and paella with another 2 glasses of wine.

Wednesday - walked 28kms in beautiful sunshine. The first day that I have worn shorts. Stopped at a food truck for an omelette. Saw some familiar faces at a cafe after 21kms and was offered a small beer. At the town for the night had 4 glasses of wine in a beautiful courtyard. For dinner I had a burrata salad and another glass of wine.

Lovely to join you on your pilgrim way. Thank you.

Thursday - well they don't call it Thirsty Thursday for nothing. Had an omelette sandwich for breakfast. Arrived in Logroño at 11am after a 21km walk and had a grape juice in the square.

In the afternoon, a group went out for tapas. Logroño is quite famous for tapas and Rioja si you can guess the result. Over a bottle of wine and 6 tapas. Then rush back before the albergue locks us out at 10pm. Sleep time then up to do it all again.

Friday - lots to write down today. Woke up feeling a bit worse for wear. Hit the road at 6am for a 30km walk averaging 6kmph. Had a pastry halfway and had to stop at an honesty box fridge near the end to get a coke and an ice pop for some sugar.

Once in town, I had quite a bit to eat as I felt quite weak. A mushroom cheese and egg bocadillo, a tortilla, a hamburger and some patatas bravas plus another coke and two glasses of grape juice. No alcohol for once.
