Hiya - yes you've got the gist but when you say 3 meals a day don't forget that some people prefer 5 or 6 smaller meals rather than 3 main ones.   Basically, whatever way you do it, you eat 
WHEN YOU'RE HUNGRY and then only until you are 
SATISFIED....... not fit-2-burst.       Your plate should consist of 1/3 superfree and the rest as free as possible but not necessarily 2/3.    It could also contain some of your syn allowance like sauces, butter, additional cheese etc. 
 Another thing to keep in mind is, whenever you need to snack choose superfree > free > syn - in that order.
